The best float during the 1949 Rumpus was that of the Sophomores consisting of a Circus Parade, complete with wild animals and wilder men. Another beautiful float was that of the newly organized Key Club. Jack McCormick and Pat Ingles were crowned as King and Queen of the Bulldog Rumpus during the evening program. First freshmen, next sophomores, then juniors, and now ai Iasi high and mighty seniors. The day of graduation is almost here, and we. the Class of 1919, are beginning to ltnik hack over our high school years. We can't even begin to name all the fun we have had. but there are a few events that are outstanding. Our freshman year was not very exciting except for learning how to make otir way through new surroundings. We built the W for the football rallies, helped the juniors sponsor the Junior-Freshman Dance, and gave one of the best assemblies of the year. The next year we were sophomores. This year was more eventful. Our assembly was again one of the best, we helped the seniors sponsor the Senior-Sophomore Dance, and we took our part in the Bulldog Rumpus. Our junior year was exciting. We felt that we were really a part of High School. Again we gave an outstanding assembly and with the help of the freshmen we sponsored the Junior-Freshman Dance. Our most outstanding accomplishment, however, was the Junior Prom, with its April Showers theme. Under the direction of Mr. Rezabeck we presented a three act comedy, The Harvest Queen. In the fall of 1948 we returned bright and eager, mighty seniors. This year was imeked with events; our class assembly, the Senior-Sophomore Dance. Senior Faculty picnic, and our class play. The Man On The Stairs. The late spring brought Senior Ditch Day. Kid Day, Class Day. the Senior Hop. and finally graduation. ANNETTE CESAR BILL AMES darn P'nv 3. HERBERT KELLER HARRY KABELIN JOAN MACLEAN NANCY STOUT President Vice President Secretary Treasurer n .LUILOZ i Wo entered this school as seventh graders in September, 1944. That year was full of many new things, such as locker combinations and Upper-Classman rule. The next year we became the high and mighty eighth graders. At least we could feel superior to someone! We took part in the Bulldog Rumpus that year, and took first prize with our float in the parade. Finally in September, 1946, we became green Freshmen and for the first time actually took part in any high school activities. We helped sponsor the Junior-Freshman Dance, put on an assembly, and of course took part in the Bulldog Rumpus. Again we took first prize in the parade. In our Sophomore year we began to feel the responsibilities of high school activities even more. Our Sophomore Assembly was a success, as was the Senior-Sophomore Dance. We again helped to make the Bulldog Rumpus a success. For the third consecutive year, our float took first place in the parade. As Juniors we were finally the high and mighty upper-classmen. Our Junior Play, “We Shook the Family Tree,” was a high success, so was our Junior Assembly. Again this year we took part in the Bulldog Rumpus, and this year our float took second in the parade. But new to us this year we sponsored the Junior Prom and a good time was had by all that were there. We are looking forward to our last year as Seniors. While in Junior High we helped with such school activities as the Bulldog Rumpus and Parade and school assemblies. We graduated on May 23, 1947. We started on our high school career in September, 1947. As green Freshmen we built the W’s for the football rallies a;id luckily all burned. In the Rumpus we had the food concession, balloon sale, and a few other things. In the parade we won second prize for our Winter Wonderland float. In January we helped the Juniors put on the annual Junior-Freshman dance. We gave the Freshman Assembly, which was a success. This year, as Sophomores, we gave the Sophomore Assembly and on April first helped the Seniors give the Senior-Sophomore Dance. For the Rumpus we had the food concession and cake raffle, and our float took first place. We are looking forward to our next two years in W. H. S. and hope we can make it a bigger and better school. After a few months of uncertainty we settled down into High School routine and began to play our part in the many High School activities. Some of our class played on the “B” Football squad while others played during the winter on the Freshman Basketball team. We helped do our share on the Junior-Freshman Dance on March 14. Then we helped at the Bulldog Rumpus with a Sideshow, a Dart Throw, a Candy Sale and an Art Gallery. The theme of our Rumpus float was “A shotgun Wedding. The Bulldogs beat Holbrook 5-3 in the first game of the year for the two teams, but the Roadrunners were victorious 12-9 in the second contest. Winslow also beat Flagstaff 12-11 on a last inning rally. Ed Crozier, Fred Rubi, Bob Clay, and Frank Santisteven handled the mound chores in the early part of the season. Bill Ames, Pete Van, Jack Pisel and Eugene Hernandez played in the outfield the first three games. Bruce DeMarse, Paul Lattin, John Paul, Dan Watson, and Louis Lee took care of the infield spots. Jack McCormick was doing the catching. Coach Emil Nasser is using underclassmen players this year as much as possible in order to give them added experience for future years. TRACK Winslow during the 1949 track season showed excellent promise of having: another Northern Arizona Championship team. The weather during: the first part of the season was unfavorable, but the approach of good weather in late April finally gave the boys plenty of opportunity to work out on the new track, north of the City Park. This is the first year in which track was held on this field. The Inter-Class meet was held the week of April 4-8. Winners of these events were: 100-------------------------------------L. This year the Bulldogs entered the Gallup Invitational Meet and won three of four contests during this tournament to return with the Consolation Trophy. Bruce De-Marse and George Warnock were high point men for the season, with a total of 211 and 223 points each. The team as a unit scored 931 points to 832 scored by the opposition. The only team to defeat the Bulldogs twice during the season were the strong St. Johns Redskins, one of the best teams in Arizona. Winslow never was beaten by more than twelve points in any game, and managed to run up high scores on most opponents. On February 17, 18, 19 the Bulldogs climaxed their season with the Northern Arizona Tournament in the new Flagstaff High School Gym. Winslow defeated Ashfork easily in the first game, but fell to the favorites, St. Johns, in the next round. The following day, the Bulldogs defeated Snowflake in the morning and Round Valley in the afternoon game to enter the secondary bracket finals against Seligman. Winslow led until the final minute of play when Seligman broke through to win 48-46. OPENING TIPOFF OF THE WINSLOW-ST. JOHNS GAME COACH J. P. LOVETT The Bulldogs won the Northern Arizona Tournament Sportsmanship Trophy for the second consecutive year at the tournament at Flagstaff for good conduct during the contests. Bruce DeMarse was selected on the All Northern Second team, with Dan Watson. George Warnock and Jimmy Cooata receiving honorable mention. ☆ COACH LOVETT Mr. Lovett finished his fourth year of coaching at Winslow High School this year. Many of the lettermen this year started with Mr. Lovett on the B” wjuad as freshmen, then moved up to serve three years on the Bulldogs’ first string. Despite the strong competition of many Northern Arizona teams. Mr. Lovett’s coaching brought the Bulldogs to a leading position in this part of the state. Only a single goal stopped the Bulldogs from again going to the State Tournament. The dinner, held at La Posada Hotel, had a unusual change of menu this year. Chicken a la King was served instead of the usual fried chicken or turkey. Claudia Ross and her committee were in charge of the decorations, which were in the form of skating figures. Since it is one of the biggest formal dances of the year, there is no limit to the amount of work in decorating the high school auditorium where the dance is held. The theme this year was Winter Wonderland, with colors of silver and blue. On the sides of the auditorium were snowbanks, trimmed with silver boughs and blue lights. In the center of the floor was a twelve foot silver tree trimmed in blue lights. On the stage was a complete outdoor snow scene, with snowbanks, a snowman, a sleigh drawn by reindeer, and four silver trees. Jerry Hitchcock, and Janet Palmer, with their committee, were in charge of the decorating. Music was furnished by Streeter’s orchestra. It was one of the most successful dances of the year and certainly the most beautiful of all the Rainbow Dinner Dances. , x ARIZONA N Establishing and maintaining a good bank connection is important to young men and women, particularly to those who hope to become the business and professional leaders of tomorrow.
