enuor Class Hustory One bright fall morning in September, 35 eager but green freshmen joined the students of Winside High There we found Mrs James Troutman to welcome us who was also to be our sponser throughout the year chose Yvonne Willers as out class president Highlighting our first year was nFreshman Initiation There we dressed as characters from literary themes We also enjoyed a watermelon feed furnished by the seniors Herman Biggerstaff, Donald, and Ronald Rohde left during the year for other schools We completed our year by an all school picnic at Crystal Lake When we gathered together in September, 1955, we found that durlnv the summer Donna Field, Laura Jo Hamilton, Rogene Prince, and Larry Willers had also left for other schools Lonnie Behmer was chosen as our class president and Coach Otfried Buelter, as our sponsor In the spring the Juniors decided that they needed two waiters and waiteresses to assist them in giving their banquet 'Candy Land for the seniors Chosen were Lonnie Behmer, Roger Morris, Carol Kahny, and Gerldine Bleich Lester Geu and Judy Carstens left our ranks during the sopho more year In the fall of 1956 twenty six wise and knowing juniors gathered again to organize a very eventful year We chose Mary Witte as our class president, Mr Harry Torney, our principal, and Mrs James Trout man to be our class sponsors On November 3J, we gave our first class Torney Those in the cast were Daniel Waterhouse, Yvonne Willers, Kenneth Ulrich, Rover Morris, Sonia Thompson, Lonnie Behmer, Retty Gaskill, Mary Witte, Nesley Ulrich, Gerladine Bleich, Nancy Iversen, Ruth Jensen, Jerry Graef, Lei Lani Wade, and Norris Janke On May 3 1957, we presented the seniors with a banquet, nOriental Gardens under the guidance of Mrs Troutman Yvonne Willers was chosen to represent Winside at Girls State Richa d Ulrich was sent as the representative to Boys State Their alternates were Karen Renske and Wesley Ulrich September, 1957, we met to complete our senior year at W H S Much to our disappointment, we found that Geraldine Bleich had left us to attend school in Wayne Lonnie Behmer was chosen as our senior class president and Superintendent George Norris, as ours ponsor Our senior pictures were taken September Zo, and most of us received them before Christmas Our school year seemed to go by very fast and we apprec iated it more than ever before Soon the basketball games were over, our senior class play given, and we had enjoyed a beautiful banquet given to us by the junior class Baccalaureate was held on May 18, and on May 22, our commencement exercises took place We wish to say a deep and sincere nThank You to our principal, teachers, and parents who have given us encouragement and help and made our high school years happy and memorable , 0 C I .
