CLASS OF 1986 PRESENTS THE CARILLON r Faculty Page 5 Seniors 14 Underclassmen 36 Sports 45 Activities 70 ■mum ©f ©©wnriMm Waiting to grow. Beginning to discover potential. Searching for direction, Seeking individuality. These were the goals each member of the Class of 1986 set for them- selves in their personal development through their high school years. 1986 DEDICATION We, the Senior Class of 1986 proudly dedicate the 1986 Carillon to Paul Frenette and Peter Picard. They have both devoted their time and efforts to teaching their students and coaching our football team. They led the Spartans to the championship football game with encouragement and a “never give up” attitude. They have shared their wisdom and experience with us; they have done more than what was expected of them; and besides be- ing our teachers and coaches, they have been our friends. Thank you. Coach Frenette and Coach Picard for your support and hard work. (3 To The Class of 1986: 1 welcome this opportunity to express to the Class of 1986 my personal gratitude for your many fine contributions to the spirit and welfare of the school during the past four years. May this spirit of loyalty and cooperation be with you in all your future endeavors. I con- gratulate you and wish you success and happiness as you travel life’s highway. Mr. Joseph Anger, Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Marguerite Pearson, Mr. Charles Hazen, Mrs. Jeanette Valliere, Mr. Bernard Bingcl. Mrs. Lynne Talbot (elected March 1986) Mr. Patrick Tipson (term expired March 1986) 6 Mr. Bernard Cieplicki Principal Dear Members of the Class of 1986: You are all seekers and learners alike, bound together in the search for knowledge. What you have at Winooski High School you shall keep always. Your future, though fashioned of dreams, will unfold according to the many treasures you have gathered. Perhaps the best years of life are behind you, but in your memories you will find joy, grieving not because they arc past, but letting them be a promise for another day. You stand on the rim of tomorrow’s horizon. Its hallmark is change; its quest is of the mind and spirit; its frontier stretches to the stars. Together for four years, you sought the essence of existence, and pursued the means of your fulfillment by discovering yourselves as individuals with a definite commitment. You looked to your friends, for no truer reflection of yourselves do you find than in one another. You developed a mature attitude toward life, and in doing so, you learned not to see through one another, but to see one another through. Good luck! This past fall all the pieces fit together. Spartan football returned to a championship level. There were many in- tegral pans to this year’s team. Senior leader- ship, with the backing of talented underclassmen, provided something special for the Spartan fans. Team goals were set early in the season and followed by hard work, sacrifice, and team- work. Each week the team began its climb to the top of the mountain. Each Saturday the team proved to their opponents that they belonged there. For the graduating seniors, they can be proud of their accomplishments. They have set a standard for others to follow. The return- ing players have an understanding of the in- gredients necessary for a successful team. The boys’ team gained some valuable experience dur- ing the early part of the season and had a very respectable finish in the conference and State Meets. The girls team improved with every race and peaked in the State Meet. A tremendous effort al- lowed them to become the Division III State Champions. Both the boys’ and girls' teams were composed mostly of freshmen and sophomores, which gives us good reason to have an optimistic outlook for the 1986 season. Special recognition goes to Tracy Brassard for representing our team in the New England meet and to Allison Picard for placing 1st in the State Meet. My special thanks and best wishes to the seniors on this year’s team. Although the girls field hockey team didn’t have a winning season, they showed consistent improvement and outstanding en- thusiasm. Both coaches and officials recognized the team’s progres- sion. With increased exposure and support, Winooski field hockey will develop into a leading force in high school athletics. That’s teamwork! From the first 52-54 loss to Rice, we knew the fire was back to stay. The constant drive, the dedication and the total commit- ment from all the players involved helped initiate the beginning to a totally superlative end. The Spartans 18-5 season record was the best since the 1973-74 season. Our goal from the beginning was to have fun, play ball the best we knew how and go out and win; and win we did! This year was just the beginning of a long line of Spartan successes because we are indeed “CHAMPIONS.” J.y. The Division III Spartans found themselves competitive against a schedule that included 11 Division I and 7 Division II games. They turned in a winning record of 5-4 at home and fell only 2 games short of qualifying for the state playdowns. As a first year coach, I felt the season was a great ex- perience and a lot of fun. Although our overall w in-loss situation was not overly impressive, our young team learned the meaning of team play and spirit, we never called it quits. We are losing only three seniors and our team will be that much more experienced next year. I am truly looking forward to a winning next season. Take that hall away!
