CARILLON DEDICATION We the members ot the 1975 Carillon Staff dedicate this edi- tion of the Carillon to: MR, ROBERT VILLEMAIRE whose unselfish efforts as a teacher, coach, and friend have guided and enriched the lives of our students. His determination, inspiration, and Spartan Spirit have added an unforgettable di- mension to our high school years. To him we extend our whole- hearted and sincere thanks. CONTENTS FACULTY SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN 53 CLUBS SPORTS SPECIAL EVENTS 123 ADS Jk To The Class of 1975- Your community, state, and nation offers your generations the opportunity to develop those facets of our society which are beneficial to our country and mankind in general, and to alter those which prove not to be. In your pursuit of these goals, these words of the late Ralph Bunch should be your guide. Do not fear to pioneer, to ven- ture down new paths of endeaver. Demand and make good use of your rights, but never fail to dis- charge faithfully the obligations and responsibilities of good citizenship. Be good Americans. My sincerest good wishes go with you always. Robert A. Hockman Superintendent of Schools ADMINISTRATION 6 In reflecting, June may bring to mind a very important event in your lifetime. This event may be one of many memorable occasions. The apparently significant events tend to be the reminders of a happy time or pleasant experience. Many more important experiences take place daily though we, often times, fail to recognize their sig- nificance. Each of you is encouraged to recognize the significance of what is before you daily. Enjoy what you have and make the most of each experience. Best wishes for a happy and meaningful tomorrow. Bernard A. Couture Principal ... People Who Care 7 Guidance 8 Learning Center People You Can Look Up To! Mr. Louis Provost Mr. Mike Shepard Aide While the Learning Media Center still retains some of the character- istic library appearances and func- tions, many changes have been made in an effort to reflect the corres- ponding changes in the classroom be it in content or method. This necessarily requires that the L.M.C. be as flexible and as re- sponsive to expressed needs (be it teacher or student) as the framework allows. Hopefully, this willingness to grow with the needs of those it serves will result in our making some significant contribution to the student's education. Since its creation, the club has expanded to include any girl concerned about her weight or attempting to maintain her weight at a particular level. To en- courage the girls to reach a desirable weight level, weekly records are kept of each member's weight. Members ac- tively participate in exercises and other sports-centered events. Guest speakers are used to present sound in- formation on proper diets and nutri- tion. The girls themselves experiment with food and menus designed partic- ularly for losing, maintaining, or gaining weight. 69 OUTING CLUB Climbing Is Our Thing: Rain, hail, sleet, or snow, what- ever the weather we always go. This year we climbed to the highest point in Vermont, Mt. Mansfield. Our main activity is hiking, but some of our other activities this year will be horseback riding, ice fishing, rock- climbing, swimming, camping, etc. V.Pres.C.Booska,Sec.R.Sabourin, Pres.G.Roberts,Treas.K.Troescher, Missing:S tu.Coun.Rep.J.Chand1e r Back Row: K. One of the oldest games known to man, the royal game has millions of volumes dealing with methods to win. Many great men (and women) have experienced the thrill of battle on the 8x8 field of combat. Chess offers mind stimulation, outlets for hostility, excitement, and pure pleasure ( when you win ). R.Campbell F. Raymond, Adv. Mr. Campbell, J. Trono, T. Audette, R. Tougas, A. Foss, A. Miller STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council this year has found itself struggling to discover its role at Winooski High School. Grad- ually it hopes to become a means by which government for the students, by the students, can be realized. In addition to being a student governing force, it feels responsible for im- proving the attitude of students to- wards our school and facilities. Stu- dent Council has participated in planning assemblies, has sponsored the Winter Ball, and has brought back our traditions of Talent Night and Competition Days. 73 Back Row: C. Thibault, C. Some just like to watch them do their thing; some like to putter around building scenery, the others try to act out their bigger than life roles. The proprietors keep an open door, in- vite you in to shop around, and hopefully make it so you want to come back to do your thing again. This year's one-act play competi- tion was a great success. Many people came shopping, the players did a great Job, and fun was had by everyone. 78 Top Row: D. Leclair, S. Hier, J. Trono, W. Tipson, M. Fregeau, R. Hebert, B. Reil, D. Guyette. Middle Row: J. In addition to presenting concerts and assem- blies of its own, it can also be found contributing to the spirit at football and basket- ball games. Some band members also represent their school bv competing and participating in district, state, and regional music festivals. Perhaps the highest point in the brief life of the Winooski High School band occurred in the spring of 1974, when they took part in an exchange concert with a high school band from Portland, Maine. The trip, the musical experience, and the friendships made, will provide many long-lasting mem- ories . 83 Top Row: D. Bilodeau, R. Foss, J. Morwood, R. Miller, S. Beaulieu, R. Ploof, Front Row: S. Students are selected on the basis of leadership, character, and honesty among other things, and it is time well spent which will be remembered always. ALTERNATES 85 Looking Toward a Brighter Future The '74 version of the Spartan baseball team was not as successful as we would have liked it to be, as their unimpressive record might in- dicate. The Spartan diamondmen , often came from behind, then lost in the wanning moments of the game. Losing eight games, each by a single run, told this story well but the Spartan tradition was there never- theless—not the winning, but the desire, the competiveness and the pride which is the trademark of all Spartans. The Spartans car- ried one freshman, Pete Harmon, who led the Spartan’s pitching staff with five wins. He was aided by Tom Perrotte, who came up with two key wins late in the season. The team was predominately an underclassman effort and for the first time in many years five participants worked very diligently with limited resources ar our disposal. We hope that with the increase of parti- cipation every year, that someday, with proper facilities, we will be able to compete on an even basis with our op- onents. Cheerleaders 99 THE CRUNCH BUNCH This year's Spartan Football Team ended the season with a record of 5 wins and 3 losses. The year began with many players injured in freak acci- dents, in practice, and in scrimmages. The forward pass came back into the Spartan offense for the first time in three years, whereas in defense, the wolfman made his appearance. In all, it was a hard season but a very reward- ing one for the players, coaches, and fans. Fourteen seniors played on this year's team and all contributed greatly to the success of the season. In three years of varsity play, these seniors compiled a 17-7-1 record which surely attests to tne quality of the players in this class. Who's Lyle Alzado? Tri-captains: D.Prince, D.Myers, Coach Bolduc, M.Gilbert The Winooski High School hockey team made a huge jump in 197 -1975. The Spartans, who enjoyed a fantastic season last year, moved from til in division 11, to division 1. Even though the Spartans dominated di- vision 11, the overall calibre of hock- ey in division 1 is vastly superior. The won vs. loss record of this year's team did not truly display the team's success. Many games were one or two goal decisions, against such powerhouses as B.F.A. and Spaulding. Winooski lacks depth in the number of players and ice time, in comparison to the teams they are competing against. This year's playing experience and ice time should help develop and improve the pucksters. Next year's fans should look forward to more aggressive play. From No. 1 to Division 1 Hockey Cheerleaders 120 114 AND IT WAS A FULL HOUSE... Has something really gone wrong with your day? Remember the beads that rolled out into the audience? Everybody broke up, but life went on with nobody thinking the worst of it. Has someone ever taken out their aggressions on you? At least one ac- tress had real guts to go out and take the beating the boys gave her, but nobody really knew. Have you had to bluff your way through a day? The actors had to bluff their way when they couldn't find the revolver in the closet, but nobody really knew. You know another thing? Being in a play was a lot fun, but you will never know unless you try it. Mr. Ross 124 125 ... Two weeks later Winooski arrived at Portland to be welcomed by a tour of the city, a boat ride to an is- land for a picnic, scheduled re- hearsals, an evening performance and a reception afterward. Not only did we exchange our mu- sical talents, but also ideas, emo- tions, humor and ourselves. The memories of our newfound friends will remain indefinitely. ...AND WERE ON OUR WAY 133 Flairy Fashions For FHA This fall, F.H.A. staged a fashion show, in conjunction with King's Department Store.
