TO LEARN TO SWIM Let the child learn to swim Where it’s too deep for him To touch his toes to sand: Let him at once begin To be in when he s in By doing without land. Let him for his own sake Require himself to make It to the diving float Or some deep-water rock From the deep end of the dock - Or further out, to a boat - Keeping his head and breath While buoyed by certain death. PARIS BY NIGHT Would you believe everyone had a good time? Happy couples danced beneath the soft lights of the Sheraton Motor Inn. - Gowned in enchantment and mist, With the moon close enough to be kissed By the tips of the towering towers, They dance to the music from within, And know by the whispering wind, That says in soft laughter and beau gestes, That this is their Paris by Night. 80 Prom-goers share a happy evening. Tom Langlois, Diane Irwin, Ron Barron, Judy Flaherty, Chris Clark, Paul Rabidoux, Nancy Goulette and Rick Boyd reigned as members of the Royal Court. 8! Judy Asiiley gave the colorful history of the 68 graduating class. Senior president, Rick Boyd, smiles as he finishes reading the Last Will and Testa- ment drawn up by his fellow classmates. JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET The happy faces on our teachers made us realize that it was an event enjoyed by all. Junior and Senior class members, faculty and honored guests were among those who at- tended the Junior Senior Banquet of 1968. An interesting account of the Senior's four suc- cessful and fulfilling years was read. The class prophecy was read and the Seniors en- joyed hearing what the crystal ball had to say! Climaxing the night's festivities was a speech made by Class President Rick Boyd in which he presented the school a television set on behalf of the 1968 graduating class. 83 Apples in tomato sauce - M-m-m good! The Freshman Class recites the traditional chant in praise of the Seniors. 84 Smile now - while you can! Can there possibly be happy Freshmen? Hey Jim, keep your sunny side up! 85 86 GRADUATION RIGHT: Patrick Boyd leads his class into the gym for the commencement ceremonies. This was the year that was meant to be for the Spartans of Winooski High. This year the Spartans compiled a 5-3 record, the first winning season for Coach Vil- lemaire and his staff. Highlights of this year's season were many, and these can only be attributed to the team's high sense of Pride and a true understanding of Unity. Quarterback Dave Villemaire (20) rolls out and. looks for an open receiver down field. Oscar Daudelin (24) puts a stop to another St. John's bid for six points, while Roland Dion (19) moves in to help out. Rene Cusson (4), the roadrunner , is off and running for his second touchdown against So. Burlington, while Steve Richards (15) takes down the last defender in Cusson's path with a fine block. Of peaceful brooks and restless seas. Or where they went, Or how they came to be. I thought I never would. And then with time I came to see, And understood of winds and trees. And all the things that used to be So hard for me to understand, I understood. Now that all that time is past And I am going out at last, There are greater things I do not know. I do not know why wars must be. Or why a man cannot be free When he should have equality. I do not know how God, in love, Could wish these things down from above. Often they have told me why That wars are And men must die. Yet these things I do not understand. I think I never will. JOAN LaTAILLE
