THE ’67 CARILLON Presented by the Seniors of WINOOSKI HIGH SCHOOL Winooski, Vermont NEW ENGLANO ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES SECONDARY SCHOOLS ESTABLISHED IN 1885 When things go wrong, as they sometimes will. When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh; When care is pressing you down quite a bit— Rest if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As everyone of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don’t give up though the pace seems slow-- You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than It seems to a faint and faltering man Often the struggler has given up When he might have captured the victor's cup; And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out-- The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar; So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit— It’s when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit. His enthusiasm and dedication have inspired his teams so that Winooski has reached the finals year after year. His personal example of good sportsmanship has permeated the school, and has contributed to the development of a fine school spirit. His enthusiasm for sports implemented the intramural sports program which so many of our students enjoy. He encourages the students to keep physically fit, and has provided excellent equipment for that purpose. He is more, however, than a teacher-coach—he is a friend to each student of Winooski High. It is, therefore, with the warmest regard that we salute our teacher, coach, friend and advisor. 5 EDITORIAL STAFF: STANDING; S. Soutiere, A. Nattress, J. Sorrell, K. Phillips, J. Schmaldienst. This year Bruce has been one of the best corner men in the Northern League. Deadly from the outside with his quick jumper and able to drive the baseline and hit with left or right hand shots inside, Bruce was the team's lead- ing scorer and placed second in rebounding. Paul Bourassa has been a starter on the varsity for the last three years. He leads the team in field goal percentages with an amazing 53% from the floor. Quick as a cat on both offense and defense, and a strong defensive player, Paul had a great year and was the team's second leading scorer. Winooski basketball fans will have a long wait before they again see a one-two scoring combi- nation the likes of Paul Bourassa and Bruce La- Pointe. They will be greatly missed by every- one who has had the pleasure of watching them play the last three years. Jerry Allen was the fastest man on the team and had excellent jumping ability for a 5'8 player. He out-rebounded many players well over six feet. A fine team player willing to do what was asked of him. Jerry lead the team in the upset win over Northern League Champions, South Bur- lington. Tall and lean Paul Rabidoux showed the ability to get good position under both boards and held his own against much larger players. Paul's fu- ture looks bright for next year and he could be one of the Northern League's leading centers. Bourassa Rabidoux Paul McLeod, the first freshman to get a starting role on the varsity in many years, has good strength and jumping ability and was the team's leading re- bounder. With three years remaining Paul could become one of Winooski's super-stars. Jim Massucci has the ability to come off the bench and spark the team with his hustle and tough defensive work. Only a junior, Jim loves to run and rebound and he should be one of the leading players on next year's team. 87 Massucci Freshman center Paul McLeod goes up for the tap at the beginning of the Rice game. Senior guard Jerry Allen jumps high to score a basket against the Little Indians. McLeod scores two against Rice in his best game. 88 High scoring guard Paul Bourassa drives by a Spaulding defender on the way to the basket. Senior forward Bruce LaPointe fires away for another basket in tourna- ment action against Spaulding. LaPointe goes high for a re- in an overtime win against Essex. 89 Allen takes a jump shot against Rice in a great game. The Spartans put out a great effort but finally went down in a heartbreaking loss 50-42. Paul Bourassa drives in and scores two with a great underhand layup shot. LaPointe drives underneath the hoop for another basket against the Essex Hornets. 90 J. V. Basketball FRONT ROW: Left to Right; H. Germain. P. LaBonte, G. Viens, M. Wells, P. Guyette, MIDDLE ROW; R.
