JOSEPH MICHEAL POPLAWSKI JANE MERCURE BUSINESS MANAGER - lARB PEETERS PL AW •V WINOOSKI HIGH SCHOOL Winoosky, Vermont FOREWORD FOREWORD Herculean efforts have been made to realize a new Winooski High School. A long, strenuous, period has seen our dream of a beautiful structure come true. We leave behind many memories of an old building which still holds in our minds, a sort of sympathetic grandeur. In the new school, we may look forward to new courses, new experiences, and above all a more rounded education with which to meet a changing DEDICATION DEDICATION The class of 1959 dedicates its Carillon to the people of Winooski in commemoration of the'part they have played in molding our character ant} happiness. We wish to express our gratitude for a magnificent edifice, our new schooh ;eled us, and have taken M 1 alwiystegiember tfie ile we Since our birth, tHey have steps to see that a happy future isa! people who have helped us along the path to maturity say, thank you. THEME The old order changeth, yielding place to new Morte d'Arthur Alfred Lord Tennyson MAURICE PAQUETTE............School Trustee HENRY STONE.....................Contractor ARTHUR BLANCHARD....................School Trustee ROBERT LULL---------------------Superintendent HOWARD THOMPSON.................School Trustee JULIAN GOODRICH......................Architect ROBERT D. LULL, JR. Superintendent Of Schools To the Class of 1959: The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.” These lines are spoken by a court jester, the comedian of his time, in one of Shakespeare's great comedies. As one's educa- tion progresses, no matter by what means, it should create in him a sense of humility as he becomes in- creasingly aware of how little he really knows. To become satisfied with the little knowledge that one has no matter how old he may be - is to become a fool. This we do not wish for you. Rather, our hope is that by now you have caught at least a glimpse of the long distances that the mind may travel; and that each of you in his own way will want to move alwaysforward realizing like the wise man that, no matter how much you may have learned at any point in your life, there is still the opportunity to learn more. Congratulations to you all. ALBERT D. LAWTON Assistant Superintendent Class of 1959, congratulations and best wishes! Your record of achievement assures me that the fu- ture will bring you much happiness and success. I cannot miss this opportunity, however, for a final word of counsel, as expressed in this old saying: What's worth doing is worth doing well. JOHN J. HERBERT Principal Congratulations to the class of 1959 on the publi- cation of the fifteenth edition of The Carillon.
