Half-time entertainment was spectacular this year with the bands intricate drills and sparkling features. The W.H.S. Band represented Winnsboro well at the South Carolina State Marching Contest. Also, the Spring Concert resulted in an excellent rating for W.H.S. Her greatest goals, however, were reached when the marching Wildcats brought home three trophies for top honore in parades. The bands activities have brought pride and honor to themselves, the community, and Winnsboro High School. Dub Miller, Drum Major; Mr. Herbert L. Gilliam, Director. But fit'st had come hours of practice un- der the broiling August sun, salt pills and taped wrists, the insistence of the coaches that work wins, five wind sprints at eight o'clock in the morning, and the agony of muscles that have been pushed beyond the limit of human endurance. Football was not all suffering, however. There were the fast friendships, the satis- faction of working together, and the sweetness of victory . . . there was the locker-room joking and nervous anticipa- tion during a pre-game pep talk. Yes, football was all of this . . , and more. For the Wildcats of Winns boro High School fought to a 8 - 2 record and a tie for the Conference Championship. The band has put away their instru- ments, the cheers are mere echoes in our memories, and dust settles on the field. Football season is over for 1968, but it will come again and once more there will be the agony of hard work and the sweetness of victorv. 88 HEAD COACH: Joe Turbeville.
