M 8a G: 'Back In Black Masque and Gavel members enjoyed themselves at the club Christmas meeting. M 8a G members: Mrs. Nell Grigg, sponsor, Addie Thornton, Melissa Flurry, Matt Purser, Sonya Ward, Todd Wold, Rhonda Bamburg, Eddie Walker, Jennifer Flurry, and Cindy Johns. Masque and Gavel is a National High School Speech Society whose purpose is to honor the individual student and to serve the high school and community. Each member has individual service projects which vary from year to year, Among the major activities in which Masque and Gavel members participate during the year are the Homecoming Assembly, the 3-Act Play, Tiger Follies, and NSU Speech Tournament. Members are also responsible for the program for the Speech Club Christmas Banquet. The annual Initiation Banquet on May 5 and the hosting of the Educational Theatre are high points on the Masque and Gavel calendar. The organization is sponsored by Mrs. Nell Grigg, The members this year are Jennifer Elur- ry, Addie Thornton, Todd Wold, Cindy Johns, Eddie Walker, Sonya Ward, Melissa Flurry, Rhonda Bamburg, and Matt Purser. ri Teachers For - omorrow Future Teachers of America is sponsored by Mrs. Nancy Crain, Dr. Jane Griffin, and the Louisiana Teachers' Association. The organiza- tion's purposes are to acquire an understanding of the history and development of our nation's schools, purposes, and objectives, to study and identify the qualities, traits, and aptitudes which are basic or related to successful teaching, to secure information about career opportunities relating to teaching and competences required by each. This year the WSHS FTA hosted the district and state conventions. The FTA participated in American Education Week, November 14-20, Teacher Appreciation Week, and the Muscular Dystrophy Drive. This year's officers were: Jay Huckaby-Presi- dent, Vonda Martin-Vice-President, Matt Purs- er-Secretary, Greg Lawrence-Treasurer, Steve Canerday-Reporter, Phil Howard-Parliamentar ian, Barbie McFarland-Historian.
