Check It Out! The Library Club, sponsored by Mrs. Joan Huckaby, encouraged people to stop by the library and check out some books. After all, the purposes of the organization are to sponsor a greater interest among students in the use of books and library services, to stimulate reading interests, and to improve the library service of the school. The 1982-83 officers were: Johnny Williams-President, Sam Barnes-Vice-President, Judy Gates-Secretary-Treasurer. Members must be seniors and work one school hour each day in the library. The Library Club participated in Homecoming activities and placed second in the Homecoming door compe- tition. The club also participated in National Book Week and co-Sponsored the Beauty and Beau Pageant. Extra Read All About It! The 1982-83 Tiger Roar Staff, spon- sored by Mrs. Joan Huckaby, kept the school well informed and interested in school events through the school news- paper. The staff members, selected by Mr, Machen and Mrs. Huckaby were: Patty Webb-Editor-in-Chief, Glenn Nel- son-Art, Lori Hand-Clubs, Laura Watts and Todd Wold-Exchange, Sam Barnes and Ann Brown-Features, Judy Gates and Gilda Williams-News, Marcel Mills, Johnny Williams and Perry Myles- Sports. The aims of the organization are to collect and-print all the news of the school, to develop a uniform school spirit of the highest quality, to build and influence student opinion, to encourage the best school enterprises, to cooper- ate in respect for school authorities, to maintain clean sportsmanship, to serve as a place for the expression of student opinion, to acquaint the community with the progress of the school, to pro- mote good scholarship and to work for the best interests of the school commu- nity. La Societe Francaise: Say What! The French Club sponsored by Mrs. Taffy Creel, aimed to increase its members' knowledge of France, its culture, history, and language. To be- come a member, a student must have had a C average in French and must be taking or must have taken a French course. This year's officers were: Todd Wold-President, Stephanie McDowell-Secretary-treasurer, Shahn Dempsey-Historian, Steve Miller- Par- liamentarian. Throughout the year, the French Club staged such spectacular events as the French Week, the French Ban- quet, and the fabulous French Food days when French students bring their favorite French food dish. ri Teachers For - omorrow Future Teachers of America is sponsored by Mrs. Nancy Crain, Dr. Jane Griffin, and the Louisiana Teachers' Association. The organiza- tion's purposes are to acquire an understanding of the history and development of our nation's schools, purposes, and objectives, to study and identify the qualities, traits, and aptitudes which are basic or related to successful teaching, to secure information about career opportunities relating to teaching and competences required by each. This year the WSHS FTA hosted the district and state conventions. The FTA participated in American Education Week, November 14-20, Teacher Appreciation Week, and the Muscular Dystrophy Drive.
