To say we remember is to say very little. Although he was only in seventh grade, we cannot forget what an exceptional person he was. Not only was he an outstanding student, but also an adept athlete. Although his absense has left a dark place in our midst, the light of his memory will forever shine in our hearts. 20 SENIOR OFFICERS: B. Allen, pres., V. Holeton, treas., C. Kirby, 2nd scm. sec., A. Something new was added to the field decorations. Each class set up a display. The seniors won with ‘We’ll Bury Marengo.” The following night at the Homecoming Dance, the weekend came to a climax when Alan Eikstadt and Beverly Burkhart became the new king and queen. 29 The exciting moment everyone waits for! In Apple Blossom Time The Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom of 1967 were held together at the Jolly Troll in Freeport. The banquet was served buffet style, and after the class will and prophecy were read, the tables were cleared away for dancing. The romantic, springy atmosphere created by an apple tree full of delicate pink blossoms made “In Apple Blossom Time” a most memorable occasion and a lovely farewell to the seniors. Even though the team had an average record, this victory made the sea- son a success. Injuries to Jo D Kliebe, Ed Reed, and Paul Waggoner, and a few bad breaks gave the Indians three losses in close games with Harvard, Marengo, and South Beloit. The Frosh-Soph finished the 1967-68 season with a 7-12 over- all and 6-8 conference record. The young, inexperienced Indians started the season with eight defeats in ten games. They im- proved greatly the second half of the season and won four of their last five games. They placed second in the Byron Frosh-Soph Invitational Tourna- ment. Because four of the regulars were freshmen, prospects for next year are bright. Now it's the right time to express my deep thanks to my host family, Mr. and Mrs. Mills and their three children. Many of my experiences I owe to them especially Eddie. I felt at home the first day I was in the Mills house. I thank AFS for this excellent choice, for my host family resembles so much my own family in Germany. My parents are busy, deeply religious, and also humorous. They have done everything for me to make my stay comfortable and nice, and I don’t know how to thank them. I would be unthankful not to mention all the help and experiences I got from school. I gained many friends among students and teachers. I learned a lot about life in America, its cultural heritage and present situation. I had fun in all activities I was in. I’ll surely remember our great basketball team, the student council, the choir, and other groups I belonged to. I have to thank the town of Winnebago for its hospitality, the many invitations I got and the wonderful 10 months I spent here. When I go back to Germany, my hometown Rheinbach, my family with seven younger children, I’ll tell them about the wonderful people that gave me only the best impression of their country. I still can’t believe I spent this past summer in Japan! While I was there I had a fabulous time and I can’t express my gratitude toward AFS for giving me the opportunity to go. I en- joyed everything about Japan - rice patties, kimonos, raw fish, paper fans and much more. I only hope that in the years to come many more AFS students will have a chance to travel with AFS. Everyone was just great and I can’t thank them enough, Sayonara! 52 Mike Klein Kris Carlson APS Michael Klein prepares to speak. Kris speaks of Japan. FHA honors mothers at banquet The 40 members of FHA have been kept quite busy this year. To start the year, we attended a section rally at Shannon High School. At this rally we renewed old acquaintances and exchanged ideas for the coming year. Mrs. Oresteen captured everyone’s attention when she visited one of our fall meetings and told us about her life in Pakistan. The Children’s Valentine Party was again the liveliest affair of the year as Mr. Applegate and Mrs. Nuppenau will verify. To complete the year, we spent a fun-filled weekend in Madison, Wisconsin. We toured the University and the Capitol, did some shopping, and attended an event at the Colosseum. What a small eye! 56 A meeting is called to plan the upcoming trip.
