TOGA!TOGA!TOGA! Beth Pascal is sitting out a dance to catch her breath. Jeff Parkette and Tom Parsons are looking for the way to the dance floor. Dances are so well attended that often people are turned away at the door. Judging for the best toga was hard, but look at the competition everyone had. Togas were more colorful than any Roman could have ever dreamed, but no Roman had any more fun than these pseudo-Romans at this dance. The dances are to raise money for the clubs and organizations in the school and provide a good time for the kids. Dances draw a good crowd of around three to four hundred people. Dances are usually held on Friday night for three hours in the cafeteria. For all the fun and laughs people have, they don’t mind paying the minimal cost for admittance. The dances started September fifth with the kick-off dance for everyone in the school. Then there was a dance for the freshmen to get to know each other, so it served as an ice breaker for the timid newcomers. During the Freshmen Mixer, the stereo was broken and it couldn't be repaired until 8:30. It didn't matter because the freshmen had a good time anyway. Other dances include a toga dance the Na- tional Honor Society dance, the British Ex- change dance, and the sophmore, junior, and senior dances. At the toga dance, Mr. Bennet wore a blue and white checkered toga. They had a toga contest and Alex Weare won for the best male toga. He wore a black toga, top hat, and a bow tie. The best female toga was won by Jill Tucker who wore a red toga. The Romans would be horrified if they could have seen the togas that were worn on this night. There were some people there with Winnie the Pooh print sheets, star wars, Raggedy Ann, and many others. Togas were wrapped in many strange ways. And, I wonder if the Romans really wore Bermies under their togas! Dancing in a Toga 23
