And ir doesn'r srop there. Ir's rime for 2 hours of soccer prorice, o few hours of studying, ond, of course, we musrn'r forger rhose well needed ond much deserved 2 hours of sleep each nighr. FINALLY!!! Ir's Friday, 2:15 ond we're ourra here! Gene Gufh and Diane Doherty fake a moments rest from the donee floor. On May 21, 1984, the Junior Prom was held once ogoin or the Ashworth Dy the Sean on Hampton Beach. After eating o delicious buffer dinner, the bond x- Dreoms finally arrived, jamming the donee floor with boogie-ing bodies. The ballots for the Junior Prom Queen and court were passed our and we elected Nancy Xavier os our queen. Her court consisted of Jamie Lonergan, Jackie Neff, Liz Timko, Wendy Fournier, and Anne Harrington. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves os the night rolled on. Who would hove believed whof wos involved in the West Class. The Juniors of '83, '84 certainly hod no idea. If the previous classes were anything like ours, Mrs. Millette and Mr. Rice were heaven sent. We fought over jelly or petty problems while the major ones went un- solved. We screamed at one another as if we were enemies, but came to find out we were the best of friends. The class was far from easy. If you weren’t reading a chapter in a history book you were living it. Our tests consisted of staying alive. The trip up to Norleans was one that we won't soon forget. Early to bed, early to rise (especially when you had guard duty from 3-6 a.m.). By the end of the trip we were sick of smoke, ham and cheese sandwiches, cold rainy nights, and walking. But living this way made us appreciate what the pioneers went through. For those who plan to go to work and for many who plan to go to college, having o marketable skill con be very important. It con lead to o full rime job. To students here or W.H.5. ond students of the seven school districts that rhe Center serves, it offers o variety of programs. Auto mechanics will work on customer cars, food services students will operate o restaurant, those in child services will run o pre-school program, ond construction trades students will build a home. It is o week long event to uplift our spirits for the forthcoming football gome with our rivals, the Exeter Dlue-Howks. It all began on Monday, which was Twin Day. Friends and groups of friends dressed alike. Tuesday it was Hat, Sunglasses and T-shirt Day. On Wednesday, although it was cold everyone dressed scantily because it was Summer Day. Thursday if was not uncommon to see your best friend with green hair because that was Punk Day. Friday our true selves were shown os we dressed as our favorite nerd. During the pep-rally for The Game, the studetns voted Mr. Harris as “The Nerd among the teachers. Spirit Week 21 HOMGCOMING After o full week of showing their spirit, there wos no woy these students wouldn't show up for The Game. W.H.S. faculty, alumnus, and students covered all sides of the field. It was a tough game and even though we lost, it wos the best game of the season to watch. The following night was the annual Homecoming Masquerade Dance. If you went it was very difficult to recognize anyone because they were all dressed in imaginative costumes. The Homecoming Queen and her court were announced as follows: Lisa Skoglund, Laurie Durkee, Jamie Lonergan, Lisa Flanders, and Wen- dy Fournier. And although there is o serious competitive spirit between the two teams the gome still resembles nothing more than powder puff football. This year the gome was organized by Cindi Surr- ner and chaperoned by Mrs. Potenoude and Mr. Piepgross. When it finally got under way, Kim Holl- ingworrh scored first for the Seniors, blasting into the end zone for a 6-0 lead. Junior coaches Tom Evons, Paul Downey, and Seon Focey motivated their defense to shut down the Seniors the rest of the gome. Also, effort led way to o serious injury for the Seniors' Wendy Fournier broke her collar bone. Meanwhile, the Juniors were kept pointless by the steady Senior girls and through the perseverance of coaches Dove Murray, Don Herbert, and Jeff Niedjlik, the Seniors scored again on the final ploy of the gome. Decause the Seniors hove never won the event. The Juniors defeated the Seniors by a score of 160 to 154. In third were the sophomores with 116 points, and the freshmen with 81. How did this Happen? Well, the Seniors got off to a great start by dominating the Winnabowl, but from then on the Juniors took control. They seemed to win all the little events and the important ones as well. But the main idea of Winnocornivol is not to win but to be the best you con be, so that you may bring out the competitive spirit in yourself and your class os a team. The incredible Village People won the lip sync contest despite the return of the Zlts ond the appearance of many big name rock stars. These vocalists included: Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, Van Halen, Duran Duran, and the Pointer Sisters. Then when all the competing was over there was the Winnocornivol Dance to cap off a week of high spirits and fun. The Ora Maririna Chapter of National Honor Society is o select group of students who excell in scholarship, leadership character, and service. Elected by the faculty, these students continue to demonstrate these qualifies by maintaining a B or better average, by participating os leaders in many school activities, by being examples of good moral character, and by serving school ond community in charitable projects. This year's NH5 special project” was to raise one thou- sand dollars to donate to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. An interest in notional pride, symbolized by Our Lady spurred the members toward their goal. The NHS donee, raffles, ond mug soles all served as means to their goals. Stacy Haberman Drama 35 OUUOJQ 9C WHS MARCHING BAND The 1984-85 Warrior Band, has had a busy and exciting school year. The Bond, numbering 82 playing members, 13 Flag Corps members and 1 Majorette performed at most of the football gomes halftimes both home ond owoy. At Christmas time, the bond marched in three Christmas Parades ond performed at the an- nual Christmas Concert. Winter ond spring concerts were also performed in addition to participation in state festivals, stage bond festivals and other civic ond school events. Fun- draising played a large parr in the lives of band members who saved diligently to take part in a special spr- ing trip to Florida and the Bahamas. The trip featured five days in the Disney World area where the band was invited to perform in the Walt Disney World International Festival program. The Band then traveled to Port Canaveral and boarded the S.S. Royale for a cruise to Nassau, Bahamas. This year was no different. The chorus srorred its year successfully with rhe annual Winter Concert focusing on rhe spirit of Christmas. It was then followed by rhe Spring concert and o trip to Canada where they entered in o competition against groups from other schools. 42 Chorus LATIN The Lofin Club wos formed in 1964 to give students on opportunity to participate in cultural activities based on Clossicol culture and literature. Students held o mythological look-alike con- test in October and on the Ides of March of Notre Dome College reenacted the death of Julius Coesor. Students ore getting themselves ready to attend the Notionol Junior Clossicol League (NJCL) Convention in Durham this summer. Academic contests, Olympic gomes, Verbal Cer- tamina, Dramatic Interpretations will test the wits ond skill of oil. Consrontly planning and organizing activities. All through the year they plan ac- tivities, everything from donees to the ever-populor Win- nacarnival, the Student Council's promotion of class and school spirit. In all, the goals of the 1985 Student Council successfully included its own club activities, ond its ship of schoolwide octiviries. In December the Student Council sponsored the first an- nual conned food drive with the approval of Mr. Hawley the council was able to get o half day off for the entire school, when the students collected more than 4,000 cons for local food pantries. The editors of rhe Sachem began rheir plann mg during rhe spring semester of rhe previous year. As rhe senior year progressed, so did rhe ever increasing strain of deadlines, layouts, missing photos, and advertisements collections. Years will pass and rhe true valve of rhe year- book stoff's efforts will be realized Yearbook 49 50 w I N N A C H R 0 N 1 C L E Newspaper The newspaper staff has come a long way since that single edition was published lost year. They've gotten a new advisor, Mr. Jon Rice, who has been invaluable in getting the paper off the ground this year. Nor to mention Production Managers Scott Petri and Allan Wright, and Editor Brett Tompson, who have also done much for the poper this year. Unlike past years, this year’s newpaper, the Win- nachronicle, is published weekly, something that is nor done anywhere else in New England, as the staff found out during a New England student press convention. It's a paper printed and written for the students, by the students. It con- sists of everything from features and editorials, to comics, movie reviews and the top 10. Winter Cheerleaders 53 V + Giving It Their All The 1964 footboll team ployed o good season this post foil. Although o lot of the championship team members graduated lost year, the remaining players os well os new team members gave it their oil ond finished the season with a respectable record of four wins ond five losses. Yes, the final record was respec- table, but whot was even more respectable was the woy the team dominated its opponents for the most port. The team compiled o number of very impressive statistics, they outplayed their opponents in almost every category. Coach Liporto noted that, while the teams most productive gome wos against 5om- mersworth (when the Warriors beat them 46-0), the teams most outstanding performance wos against Ex- eter. He felt that it was the best ployed gome of the season even though they fell short, losing 14-6. DeeDee Dergbouer. in the high jump ond the 110 relay, Laurie McKinnon in the 1600, Linda McLaughlin in the long jump and 110 relay.
