The Working Class During our high school years, spending the buck was a very popular pastime. New clothes, the movies, and going on dates were the basic necessities of high school life. When the handouts from Mom and Dad became fewer and fewer, we finally realized that some drastic changes would have to take place. Would we cut down on the amount of clothes we bought or stay home and watch T.V.? Not a chance! The only alternative was to get a job! The supermarkets, drug stores and fast food restaurants were just a few of the many places where we could find our classmates. A good part of the weekends were spent earning ex- tra dollars. This became a part of our lives during our high school years.
