A friend and I planned ro go on o dier for o month. Nothing serious, we decided, just enough to shed a couple of extra pounds. We set goals, cost owoy our sugar gods (Mr. Goodbor, O Henry), and wished each other good luck. Bur SOMETHING TERRIBLE happened. You see, despite our intentions, hopes, goals, dreams, and fantasies, we succumbed ro that monstrous malady of mod munchers. We gained five pounds each. WEEK 1. Torrure We both starred jobs or restaurants, affording every opportunity ro snack on bread, cheesecake, dinner mints, ere. . We became obsessed with the concept of earing. Earing become a fine art Nothing was unpoloroble WEEK 2: Cravings Our stomachs were so rired of churning and digesting that for the first couple of days we consumed nothing bur soft foods. Dier soda, coffee, skim milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, jello, and soup dominated our menus oil the way up until Monday night. THEN it was o free-for-all. WEEK 3. Protein We were dejectedly sirring at the lunch table one day over the remains of ice cream sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies when some skinny person rold us that protein burns for Jane and I knew better bur we were off on the search for protein jusr the some. Where do we start?'' I asked. Wait o minute, Jone said. Remember that Jiff commercial on TV? The one with Annette Bryant? I think you mean Anita Bryant, bur anyway, she sells orange juice, nor peanut butter. No! This one sells peanut butter and has funny ears. She says that peanut butter has more protein than anything else except sirloin. I shrugged Let's give it a try ” Our days were filled with peanut butter. Peanut butrer and crackers, peanut butter on bread, on celery, with jelly, with bologna, with fluff, you name it! Our main crisis was deciding whether ro use crunchy or creamy in our version of a high protein fribble. Bur even peanut butter failed us. By the end of week four, we had lost nothing (bur our sanity). So, my friend and I gave up the strict dier, and we're already noticing the changes! Instead of looking for chances to ear, we’re looking for chances not ro ear It's working!
