We had many friends to make, and many unfamiliar faces to meet. That first year, our class was run by the ONLY MALE officer in the his- tory of our class, Rich Page. Robin Russell was vice-president, Becky Anthony as secretary and Debbie Cratta as the treasurer (who didn't get much money)! Winnacarnival soon came, and with it the Freshman Spirit . All of us tried our hardest, but were stomped down by the upper-classmen. Although our spirits were low that night our smiling princess, Pam Fecteau, helped to boost them. The school year finally came to an end, and we knew that the next year we wouldn't be the youngest in the school. Sophmore year we did our share of picking on the freshmen, like the sophmores did to us the previous year. Robin Russell took over as President, while Becky Anthony took over as vic-president. Debbie Gratta kept up her work as treasurer, but still wasn't getting much money, and Darlene Sordillo took over as secretary. The winter months didn't bring us much snow for our Winnacarnival, but we had it anyhow. We worked hard and did our best but still we didn't win . but we did place third, and our princess was Gill Coombs. The rest of the year we tried to earn money because we knew our Junior year would be an expensive one. Junior year was very important to us. We had so much to do, and so little money and timeto do it all in. At football games we were in charge of the concession stand. Many Saturday afternoons were forfeited for our class and the money we needed. The same year, the Senior girls challenged us to a game of powder-puff football, to be played on November 14,1970. Of course the Seniors didn't have a chance because of the hard work and tough prac- tices our coaches . Rich Page, Andy Taylor, and Roger Cole put us through! We held the score down to 0-0 in the end. The only thing that amounted to that game was lots of fights, bad tempers, tears, and terri- ble language. But, at the end all was forgiven and everyone was smiling and friends once again. Our officers for that year were all girls again, as Di Sordillo was president; Sue Yuskiewicz vice-presi- dent; Lynda Hinds as secretary, and Pamela Brown as treasurer. It was Winnacarnival time again, and this year we were bound and determined not to lose!! We worked hard only to be disappointed by a one-and-a-half point loss to the Seniors. Too bad Barbara Bowers couldn't have been our queen, instead of princess. Next on the Agenda was the Junior Prom. Many Friday nights were spent at Andrea Ratoff's house — painting, repairing and preparing for one of our biggest nights. The art room looked like heaven with all our stars glittering around, and the night before the prom we thought sure we'd have to camp out on the floor of the cafetorium, so we could have it ready for Saturday. Finally the big night arrived and THIS MAGIC MOMENT hung in the air. But not all our worries were abolished. We still had to pick our queen and her court. Finally, after many hard decisions on our part, our queen, hobbled gracefully up to her throne on her crutches. Of course, Kathy Stone was the only Junior girl on crutches at the time, so it had to be her. She was escorted by Gary Colby. The queens court — Beverly Carter, Terri Thomson, Becky Anthony and Judy Stranahan danced with their escorts to the music of SPICE , while Kathy and Gary could only sit and watch. At last the worry of the prom was gone with the wind, and we could go on to raise more money, as we were still very poor. We had bake sales, attempted car washes, and a horse show, but we still needed more money to graduate in seventy-two. We finally made it . believe it or not, we're almost out of school, some of us for the rest of lives, and some only for awhile. We'll all be going our separate ways after the sixteenth, but before we leave we have one more year of memories. Our Senior year. President Beve Carter has tried her hardest to prepare us for graduation, with help from Terri Thomson as vice-president, and secretary Kathy Andrews, while treasurer Audrey Arguin has been running around begging for class dues, pleading with outstretched hands to pay them or else ! At this point we've filled out so many forms and sat in front of so many cameras, it seems like a daily ritual. This year the Seniors won the Winnacarnival. We knew we'd win it some year, but just the same, it was close! Doug Finan really had his class working for the VICTORY. The remainder of the year will be spent filling out more forms, standing in lines, practicing how to walk, and having a good time. The only thing left to say, can be good luck, and we finally made it ! CLASS OF 73 Homeroom 36: E. Allen, L. Arsenault, B. Barteau, P. Blackden, M. Bolton, N. Boyd, S. Cantelli, M. Cardarelli, O. FIELD HOCKEY 1971 was the best field hockey season ever enjoyed by Winnacunnet. The biggest highlight came early in the sea- son when the Warriorettes put it all together to come from behind at Exeter winning The Big One 2-1. Anoth- er good game was the one at Salem when the varsity collect- ed a score on a determined drive and followed through to win 1-0. The Oyster River games were good hockey for position play and passing, which the Warriorettes did well. Needless to say, it was a great season and it looks like a good year coming up, in view of the Junior Varsity 1971 record. FIELD HOCKEY 127 S. Grenier L. Dodge E. McGrady The Tri-Captains for the 1971 season of the Winnacunnet War- riors were Mark LaFramboise, Roger Cole, and Steve Gustav- son. Managers for the team were Bruce Fernald and Danny Kahl. The coaching staff was made up of Mr. David Deshon, Mr. Lee Brennan, and Mr. jack Carey. 130 VARSITY FOOTBALL 1971 Football Team: B. Welch, A. Taylor, I. Koulopoulos, T. Veilleux, J. Andrews, J. At one point, four of the six running events were topped by Winnacunnet men: Bob Walker was the best in the state in the hurdles, Rich Gibadlo in the 1000, Tim Kirwan in the 600, and Phil Kalar in the mile. Bob Walker and Rich Gibadlo emerged not only as State Champions but Northern New England Champions as well, beating all comers in the Tri-State meet. It was a young team with no depth. But everyone out wanted to improve himself, and did. Mike Dickens, Neil Pond, Dana and Kevin Heath, Scott Plaisted and Mark Gigas are men to watch in the future seasons. WINTERTRACK 139 M. Kenney, K.
