MESSAGES My sincere congratulations to the graduating class of 1967. You are graduating into a world in which po- litical, social, and technological changes and in- novations are taking place with baffling rapidity. The world outside is expecting a great deal from its youthful citizens these days. You will be ex- pected to meet your individual responsibilities in the most direct and uncompromising way that you can. I do not need to instruct you as to what these responsibilities are. The fulfillment requires the highest order of moral strength and courage. Your parents and teachers also deserve praise and congratulations on this occasion of your grad- uation from high school, for it is through their combined efforts that you have attained this im- portant goal. My personal wish is that each of you realize much success, happiness, and accomplishment in your lifetime. Paul L. O'Neil Superintendent A community cannot be happy in one part and un- happy in another. It's all or nothing, no patching any more forever. H. G. Wells H. G. Wells wrote the above words in 1905 as he looked to 20th Century progress in recognizing the worth of each individual and the dignity of man. But for all our strides forward, there remains much to be done in the years ahead. Your theme for this Yearbook will convey a different message to each person, but I look to your message in terms of all humanity. I know that the whole of mankind is equal to the sum of its parts, but it is some of these divisions that concern me in 1967. You as high school graduates must contribute to a dialogue that will bring about a better under- standing of man's relation to man. You must be ready to recognize the differences in individuals without debasing human dignity. Finally, and most important, your individual roles must never be treated indifferently; for you as a member of our society must give more than lip service to your convictions. For in the real truth of the matter, The whole is equal to the sum of the parts , and humanity is equal to the sum total of individuals that live in this world. Daniel S. Maloney Principal 7
