F, A. started this years activities even before school opened in the fall with h t e F. F. A. and 4-H Community Fair. All animals entered were awarded blue ribbons. The next week these animals were entered in the South West Washington Fair. At this fair the post hole digger and the commercial fertilizer distributor made in the farm shop last year was put on display, each entry winnin a blu 'bbo . A, boys were taken to the Puyallup Fair where poultry and dairy stock were judged, In October, a poultry team was entered in the Washington State Junior Poultr Sh . I ' ' ' y ow n November, ten boys were taken to the Pacific Internatlon Livestock Exposition at Portland where dairy cattle were judged in competition with about sixty teams from four states. its Winlock High School's Spelling team won first place in the 10th annual Lewis County spelling con- test held in Chehalis November 21. Members of the team were Janet Bay, Carol Kusturin, and Marcia Nordquist. Alternates were Donna McEwen and Jim Byrd. The team also won the trophy awarded to the school showingrthe greatest improve- ment from last year. T1 . Y. .- I T4 1- 3 I gg Winlock was well represented at the Solo Meet held in Aberdeen April 21. Janet Bay, Judy Laakso, and Susan Byrd were members of the Trumpet Trio. John Nikander played a trombone solo, Woodrow Sipp a bass solo, and Vernon Zander a saxophone solo. Members of the brass quartet were Judy Laakso, Janet Bay, John Nikander and Jerry Korpi.
