REV. JOHN H.GOOSSEN B.Sc., B.Th. PRINCIPAL OLD TESTAMENT—PROPHECY NEW TESTAMENT—ACTS AND HEBREWS ADVISER TO LITERARY COMMITTEE L. to r.: Randy, Mrs. Goossen, Jonathan, Mr. Goossen, Marvin, Paul. For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knoweth thy walking in the great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing. Deuteronomy 2:7 The Scripture passage cited above, serves well as an ap¬ propriate motto on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the Winkler Bible School. It expresses oui sentiments. The testimony refers to bountiful blessings, memorable experiences and faithful guidance. As such it is particularly suitable and applicable to the history and development of our school. Like Moses of old, we acknowledge our indebtedness to God and thank Him for His faithfulness throughout the years. He has supplied the material and spiritual needs. Physically, the school has grown and developed. From an inconspicuous beginning in 1925, the work has progressed and prospered. Today we have a new campus and new facilities. When we reflect on this, the words of the Psalmist come to mind, “This is of the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” As such the school stands as an edifice of God’s good¬ ness to us. In turn, however, it is also a signal witness of the faithful support that it has enjoyed from the churches of our constituency. In the spiritual realm who can enumerate the countless bless¬ ings which we have received? There were times when the Lord spoke in a very special way to all. We felt His nearness, in the classroom when the Word was expounded, in the morning chapel services or at the Bible and Missionary conferences when we were edified and challenged. The joy of Christian fellowship in school, in the dormitory, and on deputation will never be forgotten. There were also memorable experiences when lives were cleansed, sanctified and rededicated to Christ. Others were strengthened and encouraged. But the Lord also gave us the opportunity to share our blessings v ith others. We thank Him for the many open doors of Christian service given to us this year in particular. The motto serves as a word of encouragement to our graduates. It is comforting to know that God is the changeless One. On the pilgrimage of life. He knows the need of everyone. We have the assurance that He will protect, provide and guide. When the above words were spoken, Israel was on the thresh- hold of a new era. A new day was dawning; the promised land lay before them to occupy. There were foes to face, bat¬ tles to fight, victories to be won before it could be possessed. You, too, are living in an era of unprecedented progress. Great emphasis is laid upon education. It is a time of great op¬ portunities in every field. Utilize the opportunities as the Lord leads and directs you. Above all remain true to the Lord. The forces of aggressive secularism and materialism will face you. How will you fare? Let us ever remember that it was not the strength of the foe that spelled defeat for Israel, but rather it was faith in God and moral integrity that mat¬ tered. I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to the Year¬ book Committee for the splendid effort that they have put forth to produce the Anniversary Yearbook. In the years to come, may this annual recall many pleasant memories of Bible School.
