Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1962 volume:

rnmm I WILL NOT LET THEE GO EXCEPT THOU BLESS ME. —Genesis 32:26. ‘O Morning Star, how fair and bright Thou beamest forth in truth and light! O Sovereign meek and lowly! Sweet Root of Jesse, David’s Son, My King and Bridegroom, Thou hast won Mv heart to love Thee solely! Lovely art Thou, fair and glorious. All victorious, rich in blessing. Rule and might o’er all possessing.” ‘I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” —Rev. 22:16. DEDICATION THIS BOOK IS RESPECTFULLY DEDI¬ CATED TO THE REV. Mr. John H. Goossen, B.Sc., B.Th. Geography Church History Bible PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE As I reflect on the blessings which the Lord has bestowed on us during the past year, my heart is filled with gratitude to God. My sentiments, in this respect, are expressed in the words, “I thank Him for all the enrichment that has come to you in Christ”—1 Cor. 1:5 (N.E.B.). Christ recreates and enriches the life of all who trust and follow Him. For “in Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” To be en¬ riched through Him is to have true and abiding treasures. In our studies He has enriched our life by His Word, through Christian fellowship and service. May we utilize the benefits we have re¬ ceived to further His cause. In behalf of the staff and students, I commend the Year Book Committee on the production of the new edition of the Morning Star. May we recall pleasant memories as we scan its pages. 7 Rev. H. Wenn er sich halt nach seinen Worten—Psalm 119:9. 26 FAREWELL As the Arabian caravan travelled across the desert sands, it came across a man dying of thirst. As he sipped the water given to him, he said, “It never tasted so good.” This man found the water refreshing and life-giving, and likewise our souls have experienced a far greater “living water” through the study of God’s Word. We have enjoyed the systematic and thorough exposition of many portions in the Bible. Our study, verse by verse, and chapter by chapter, developed a new appreciation of Scripture and removed the veil of obscurity many times. These expositions opened our eyes to new spiritual truths which by God’s grace we have been able to incorporate into our daily lives. As the third class, we have been happy to fellowship with our first and second classes. If we reminisce and recall the years when we filled your places, we feel we can understand your position as you face the ’62-’63 school term. The Lord has helped us in our responsibilities and we are confident that in Him you will also find grace and guidance to provide leadership when you will fill our places. This period of study is an important stepping stone to future achievements. The theme has been preparation and spiritual maturity. We praise God for the love and grace He has given us, and our wish is—that the beauty of Jesus may be seen in us. We challenge you to experience an even greater measure of the same. —Richard Labun. This added much to the service and it gave opportunity for student participation. From 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., a group served in the local hospital with six or seven songs, Scripture, and prayer. It was our sincere desire that the patients and staff be encouraged and strengthened through this ministry. Together with our choir director, we tried to make music an integral part of our Christian life. It was a privilege for the committee to assist in the musical activities of the school. Our prayer is that this work could be of lasting benefit and blessing. Sylvia Dyck. These included the monthly Christian Endeavour program, the sponsoring of the talent night, and the planning and preparation of the evening program of the proposed visit of the Grade Twelve students of the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute. These programs proved a blessing to all of us and proved a channel for self-expression. As a committee we are grateful to God for having had this opportunity to serve. 30 Eric Klassen. Many consecrated Christians have answered the call and have gone out into missionary service. We have had the privi¬ lege in our mission prayer group to intercede for them. To do this the mission fields were divided into six groups, namely: China and Japan; Africa; India; Europe; Colombia and Mexico; Brazil, Ecuador and Paraguay. All the students participated in these weekly prayer meetings. Occasionally we received letters from missionaries, who gave us special prayer requests and items of praise, as well as an insight into missionary work. It was a great challenge to be able to pray for them. For the missionary on the field, it is a great encouragement to know that there are prayer-warriors at home. The Lord may not call us to the mission field but we are certainly called upon to support them in prayer. Eleanor B VISITORS Orientation Welcome M.B.C.I.! M.B.C.I. Singing Groups Supper Farewell! The students of the Winkler Bible School have found this to be true in their preparation and distribution of Good Cheer. Much time and effort was expended by teachers and students in gathering, sorting and distribution of goods which consisted of groceries, clothes and toys. Most of the goods came from homes and businesses of the Winkler area. Thirteen groups covered an area ranging from Altona and Rosenfeld in the east, to Moraen in the west and from Carman in the north to the U.S. boundary in the south. This work gave us an in¬ sight into the physical and spiritual needs of many homes in Southern Manitoba. We shared many blessed moments of fellowship in serving these people. At the end of the day we returned to Winkler physically spent but spiritually enriched. Pete Wiebe. DEPUTATION WORK “Serve the Lord with gladness” Ps. 100:2. This has truly been the attitude of the students in regard to deputation work. As it was impossible for all of the students to go on every visitation, whenever the announcement of a coming church-visitation was posted, students would crowd eagerly around the bul¬ letin board, and scan the list to see if they were included. We are grateful to God that it was our privilege to visit various churches in Manitoba. The programs were designed to serve a three-fold purpose: to maintain the necessary contact between the church and the school, to give the students an opportunity for self-expression of what they have learned and experienced, and to interest prospective students by giving them an insight into the life of the school. The students of the school received a great blessing from this work and learned to trust the grace of God. Our prayer is that this work may have served to glorify God and to further His kingdom. We experienced James 4:6, “He giveth more grace,” both in preparation and presentation of the programs. Alfred Poetker. 40 giiHaifr PRACTICAL WORK It has been our privilege to bring a weekly program in the Tabor Old Folks Home in Morden. Every Tuesday night a group of students presented a program which consisted of songs, testimonies, and two messages. The service was held in the dining hall of the home where about 25 to 35 old folk were gathered. The public address system carried the program to the rest of the building and units. Another opportunity of service was that of singing daily at the local hospital. Every weekday be¬ tween 6:30 - 7:00 p.m. a group of singers gathered in the corridor of the hospital, and sang about five or six songs which, we trust, have been a source of com fort and encouragement to the sick. We thank God for the blessed experience of serving. This we did joyfully, being motivated by the verse which we find in Matthew 25:40, “In as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Peter Nikkei. 41 DEVOTIONS PRAYER MEETINGS It is the privilege of the Christian to come to the Lord in prayer. This opportunity was ours in our weekly prayer meeting where the Lord blessed us in mutual fellowship. Through prayer and testimonies we realize that we were not alone with our inner struggles. With God’s help we have been able to help one another in our problems. We have thus come to a greater understanding of the verse in 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” We have come to realize that “Prayer is the key to heaven but faith unlocks the door.” Lorna Froese. As we have a busy school schedule those who live in private homes find their “home life” quite busy. Housekeeping and meals (usually pre-prepared) are more or less a sideline. Those who have roommates have an advantage in that they share the work as well as their experiences. The principle of sharing results in profitable discussions and pleasant memories.
