1972 THE RAIDER Winifred High School Winifred, Montana Golden Anniversary of Winifred High School It has been fifty years since the first senior class was graduated from Winifred High School. Since that time, many students have received their diplomas and found their place in life. The seniors of 1972 acknowledge this anniversary and hope that the future students of Winifred High School will continue to have many more successful years. Russ Whitmore (LEFT) congratulates his grandson, Ed Ehlert, upon his graduation. Mr. Whitmore was a member of the first graduating class 50 years ago. First school building in Winifred. Approving budget requests, making adminis- trative decisions, and setting school policies are typical points of discussion at meetings. Carnival Queen Reigns Over Annual Event QUEEN NADINE TAFOLIA A carnival atmosphere was evident when the community and school joined forces to present another fun night at the community hall. Games, food, and dancing were enjoyed by everyone, with the crowning of queen Nadine and her attendants being the climax of the evening. Typing and journalism pins and certificates were awarded by Mrs. Thelma Thomas. Speech awards went to Ed Longin's Speech Club members. Librarians received certificates from Mrs. Mildred Swope, and Honor Roll members were recognized by Supt. Lehman. Perfect attendance awards were earned by some of the students in the grades. Both track teams competed in six meets despite the cold, rainy spring weather. Winifred hosted an invitational meet, which was a warm-up for the district meet. After three cancellations, the district meet was held in Lewistown on May 15. Eight boys and four girls advanced to divisional in Great Falls. In divisional competition, Dean Quigley placed third in high jump, and Kitty Carr placed fourth in discus, thus advancing to the state meets May 26. Two school records were broken in both the 880 and mile relay. Come on Doris, you can't be tired yet. 47 Donita comes in for a perfect landing.
