wm m ■ . THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1963 PRESENTS THE WINIFRED RED RAIDER DEDICATION We, the Class of 1963, wish to dedicate our annual to the people in the community for the fine support they have given and the in- terest they have taken in school activities. If it was not for this co- operation and encouragement, this edition of the Red Raider would be a very difficult task. IN APPRECIATION We, the Red Raider Staff wish to express our appreciation to our Annual Adviser, Mr. Eugene Comes, for his hard work and patience which have helped to make this yearbook a success. 2 SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE The Staff has left no stone unturned to bring to the readers of this book a true picture of life and activities as they existed in the Wini- fred school during the year 1962-1963. They are to be congratulated for a job well done. You, the recipient of this book, will learn to value its pages more and more as the years go by. Its pictures, stories and personal notes will make it possible for you to relive again and again the happiest days of your life--your school days. Best wishes to you and all its readers. Ronald Wilcox was chosen as alternate. Shirley Smith was sponsored to Girls' State by the Legion Auxiliary. Deloris Reppe was chosen as alternate. These students were chosen by the faculty on the basis of ability to speak, honesty, leadership, citizenship, co-operation and scholarship. This educational program is sponsored by the American Legion and Auxiliary to instruct young people in the function of local and state govern- ments in which they set up their own model gov- ernments. Montana State Col- lege in Bozeman was the setting for Montana Girls' State and Montana Boys' State was held at Western Montana College at Dil- lon. 14 Alternate: Deloris Reppe Alternate: Ronald Wilcox VALEDICTORIAN Now that I am a senior, I realize the impor- tance of the years that are behind me. As stu- dents in high school, we sometimes don't make the most of our education. Until we have reached this point of no return, we often think we can do it tomorrow or that we'll learn it next year. Suddenly we are out on our own with no help—help we have had all our lives. Therefore, every student should learn to make some of his own decisions. Acquiring necessary will power and good judgment while in high school will help immensely in the outside world which graduates have to enter. UJ JLcxrX- SALUTATORIAN I would like to encourage all students still in high school and those who are entering high school next year to take good advantage of every minute in your high school years. Every activity that you partake in will remain a golden memory to you in years to come. Social activities are important, but more emphasis should be placed on studies; although they may not seem very important now they will seem amazingly important when you be- come a senior. Your standing in your class will seem quite important to you also, es- pecially if you plan to enter college. 15 SENIOR CLASSES Montana History Chemistry Bookkeeping Social Living English IV CLASS WILL I, Harley Allen Damschen, will my good times at W.H.S. to someone who wants them. FOOTBALL 62” The 62 football season for the Red Raiders began with a mostly inexperienced but enthusiastic group of boys reporting for practice. There were three seniors, four juniors, five sophomores and four freshmen to make a total of sixteen; of which five were returning lettermen. Early in the season, Roger Reppe, a promising end received a knee injury and was out for the remainder of the season. Progress was slow for some time, but as men were switched and reswitched the team began to take shape. Al- though the end of the season saw the Raiders with- out a win, they had gained much experience and had made several fine showings against the top powers of Districts 9 and 10. Graduating from this years team are lettermen Ron Wilcox and Harley Damschen. Returning lettermen will be Don Arthur, Andy Anderson, Bill Crow, Bill Olsen, Dar Heggem, Tom Udelhoven, Jim Wickens, James Scoville, Roger Reppe, Gary Dosher, and Howard Tuss. The lighting of the W on the hill and also the burning of the Stanford dummy were highlights of the evening. The kick-off between the Winifred Red Raiders and the Stanford Wolves took place the following day. The Raiders worked hard and did their best until the final gun sounded at the close of the game. Unfortunately the Stanford Wolves upset Winifred's Homecoming by a score of 20-6. The Homecoming dance started that evening at 9:00. The highlight of the Homecoming season was the crowning of the King and Queen by coach Dave Savuageau. There was a very large crowd at all the events of Homecoming, encouraging and backing the stu- dents of Winifred High School all the way. Cheerleaders at the bonfire ii. Stanford V.S.
