Text from Pages 1 - 52 of the 1958 volume:

We are happy to present the 1958 RED RAIDER. We hope, as you turn the pages, it will bring back many memories of the school year 1957-1958. This was the year that the Braves won the series and Sputnik was introduced into our world. Also, many things have taken place in our own school. We have tried to write them down for you. We hope you will enjoy reading the RED RAIDER as much as we have enjoyed putting it together. SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE Much planning and hard work has gone into the production of this yearbook. Its stories and pictures give you, its readers, a bird’s-eye view of life as it existed in the Winifred School dur- ing the year 1957-1958. Much credit should go to the members of the annual staff and their advisor, Mr. Spoja. They have done a magnificent job. To you students, and parents of students, this book will have a perpetual value. In fact, it will become more treasured with its age. You will refer to its pictures and stories many, many times in years to come. Its pages will permit you, the students of 1957-1958. to relive and reminisce your happy school days at Winifred. As you read this book, in future years, you will chuckle and laugh at the mode of dress worn by you and your classmates in 1957-1958. You will recall the many happy and carefree moments of your youth. It is the sincerest hope of the undersigned that the future of each and every student shall be blessed with a long and full life of good health, great happiness and unbounded success. School began for the year 1957-1958. September 11 7:30 P. M. A reception for the teachers. Mrs. Fontanelle Trotter was honor guest. Friday September 13 - Freshman Initiation. Friday September 27 - Football game at Judith Gap. The final score was Judith Gap - 24 and Winifred - 13. In September, 1954, 18 shy but determined freshmen entered the golden gates of Winifred High School. They were Jack Brooks, Sandra Philp, Noble Hamilton, Judy Udelhoven, David Kucera, Lou- is Miros, Jim Moody, Sharon Sawyer, Leo Wherley, John Carr, Ken Walling, Tom Walling, Ed Jones, Bob Olsen, Frank Arthur, John As- bjornson, Ray Asbjornson and Roland Reppe. They survived initiation and all the learning poured into their heads during the first year and thus became sophomores. In September, 1955, the same group, less shy and more deter- mined again entered the halls. They got revenge for initiation and more learning was poured into their already full heads, as they climbed the ladder to graduation. In September, 1956, they found themselves again at the door and again it opened. This year they were minus Ed Jones and Bob Ol- sen, but they gained Helen Duvall and John Hunt. This was a year full of excitement and fun. They published the paper and presented the play, Everybody's Crazy, and danced at their prom, Blue Moon. ” In September, 1957, (that long awaited senior year) they came back to enter those doors for their last year in Winifred High School. They were only 16 in number as they had lost Leo Wherley and Helen Duvall. This year they presented the senior play, Hillbilly Wed- din', and published the annual. They were guests at the annual Jun- ior-Senior banquet. Then came graduation and the knowledge that their careers as high school students had ended. With elation, yet a touch of sadness, they parted to take their various places in the world. FRANKLIN JAMES ARTHUR. Frank Junior Play 3; Senior Play 3,4; Paper Staff 3; Annual Staff 4.
