Text from Pages 1 - 56 of the 1955 volume:

7?te66 zye A yearbook is a brief history of school life as it ex- isted during a certain period. This annual will con- tinue to serve as a record of your school days at Winifred High in the year 1954-55 as long as you live. It becomes more valuable with the passing of the years. Ten, twenty, thirty or more years from now you will gain much satisfaction from turning the pages of this book and reliving your high school days. Keep good care of this book until you realize its value. Sincerely, Theodore M. Bergum 'Dedtcati t Our last two years in Winifred High School have been made brighter and happier because of the un- derstanding, loyalty, kindness, and good-natured- ness of Mr. Lawrence Helmer, therefore, we lov- ingly dedicate this edition of the 1955 Red Raider to him. TfCeet t6e Schcm Gordon Kucera = Better known as Kootch is best noted for his ability to miss a week of school at a time elk hunting, and touring the United States. Tony Arthur = Remembered for the day he missed a semester English test so his picture could be taken in the last big horse roundup. Tommy Thompson = A hard working man in the senior class, most likely to get married first; if everything continues as it is. Sam Hunt = Noted for all his women, and his ability to outtalk the faculty. Leo Osburnsen = Ladies' man of the class, best known for his ability to sing, and his arguments with Mary Mendel. George Econom = Daddy's little cowboy, noted for his ability to go steady for a long time and also has a knack of letting pickups run over him. Marian Bolstad = Better known as Red is noted for her ability to have so many dates with so many different boys in one night. Bonnie Thompson = Well remembered for the many times Ed's Studebaker has quit them, accident or otherwise ! Rosetta Stulc = Preferred to finish school at home where she could drool over her diamond ring. Bonnie Hess = Noted for her various types of earrings; she also is finishing school through correspondence. Marilyn Moore = Noted for jumping everytime she sees a mouse; is taking her school through correspondence. Margaret Moore = Remembered for being out playing with the calves when she should have been studying, is also a correspondent student. In the fall of 1951 eleven bashful and helpless freshmen were guided to the High School door by the upperclassmen. These freshmen were Bonnie Hess, Marian Bolstad, Rosetta Stulc, Bonnie Thompson, Darlene Crow, Leo Osburnsen, Tom Thomp- son, Gordon Kucera, George Econom, Tony Arthur, and Gene Heller. They looked forward to their hi school daze but were a little worried about the initiation the Sophomores had in store for them. We lost Darlene Crow in April, when she got married. As we passed to our Sophomore year we were a little older and bolder. Sam Hunt transferred to Winifred from Nova Scotia to join our happy throng. We then were jolly juniors. This year we lost Gene Heller when he moved to Denton with his family. Our junior year brought an inspiring play Desperate Ambrose to life. In our view it was the greatest production ever to enter W. H. S. Another outstanding event of our Junior year was the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, with the theme entitled Moonlight and Roses. At the prom and banquet a floor show was put on by the fifth and sixth grade girls who danced and sang to the song Moonlight and Roses around the maypole. As we begin our Senior year we realize just how much our high school has meant to us. This year Rosetta Stulc and Bonnie Hess left us and got married, but they finished high school by correspondence. Two other girls graduating with us are Marilyn and Margaret Moore. They have been in our class since Fresh- men, but they were taking their school by correspondence. We realize in graduating, our joyful and studious class will be great- ly missed throughout Winifred High School. As we venture out in the strange world, we wish to express our deep appreciation and thanks to our parents and teachers as well as our community for making our high school life so happy and prosperous. (2£cm4. The Seniors of 1955 felt they should will their personal talents and properties to show their gratitude to the student body. George Econom wills his curly hair to Billy Sawyer. To the freshmen class he leaves his ability to get along with the teachers. Sam Hunt wills his ability as a football halfback position to Eugene Erlandson and his high grades of A’s in English to Jimmy Moody. Gordon Kucera wills his ability to skip school to anyone who can use it, as he feels he can’t; also he bequeaths his cigarettes to Mary Mendel. Tony Arthur wills his Bull-Durham to Shirley Reppe and his sleeping habits in class to those who need it. Marian Bolstad leaves her red hair to Noble Hamilton and her ability to play the clarinet to Wilma Udelhoven. Bonnie Thompson wills her ability to pack the bass drum to Nancy Simac and she wills her jealous temper to Sandra Philips. Leo Osburnsen wills his obedient passengers to Lewistown to his brother Jerry, since he is next in line; and his high jump- ing skill to Jack Brooks. Tommy Thompson bequeaths his ways of staying out of trouble to the freshman boys who truly need it and his loving ways to the high school girls. As a class we will the following items to underclass friends; Our football team. The ability to have everyone in roll call. Our habits of getting out of school to farm. Writing our own excuses for being absent. To the STUDENT BODY we leave. Guest Speaker DR. R. R.
