BUDD E. SMITH, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. President To the Students of 1956-57 You have become a part of Wingate College, and Wingate College has become a part of you. I wish for you the very finest of everything, and I want to express to you my sincere hope that each of you will pledge within your heart that you will adopt a plan for living that will give to your life meaning. F or that plan, I would suggest a very simple formula. Into this formula, I would put the importance of the development of your life. You must see that your life is developed to the fullest. Development of the potentialities given to you by your Creator will mean that you are ready to move forward and that you will never forget the great heritages that are yours. In the second place. I would ask you to put into the formula consideration, con- sideration for others. You have learned the importance of that at Wingate, and I hope that you will never forget it. In your contacts with others, you will realize that every individual ' s life is important and that each individual has much to contribute to you and your life. We all can work together if we will be considerate of one another. In the third place, I would put into the formula service. You are now better prepared to be of greater service. You will now go out and serve your God, your fellowmen, your community, and you will never forget the value of giving. For everything that you give — time, money, thought — I assure you, you will be rewarded ten-fold. As you move into the world and find success, do not forget your Alma Mater, the school that has given you a beginning; the teachers who have given of their best to you, their love, their consideration, their knowledge. We give you heartfelt love that shall permeate and follow you from now until eternity. S u l zfip-zzsL Page Eight
