I H HHI H Dedication In sincere respect for his loyalty and years of service to his Alma Mater and his understanding faith in its stu- dents and with appreciation for his love, devotion, and vision for his school, we dedicate THE GATE of 1957 to our Director of Public Relations, MR. JOHN COX. Page Seven BUDD E. SMITH, B.A., M.A., Ph.D. President To the Students of 1956-57 You have become a part of Wingate College, and Wingate College has become a part of you. I wish for you the very finest of everything, and I want to express to you my sincere hope that each of you will pledge within your heart that you will adopt a plan for living that will give to your life meaning. F or that plan, I would suggest a very simple formula. Into this formula, I would put the importance of the development of your life. You must see that your life is developed to the fullest. Development of the potentialities given to you by your Creator will mean that you are ready to move forward and that you will never forget the great heritages that are yours. In the second place. I would ask you to put into the formula consideration, con- sideration for others. You have learned the importance of that at Wingate, and I hope that you will never forget it. In your contacts with others, you will realize that every individual ' s life is important and that each individual has much to contribute to you and your life. We all can work together if we will be considerate of one another. In the third place, I would put into the formula service. You are now better prepared to be of greater service. You will now go out and serve your God, your fellowmen, your community, and you will never forget the value of giving. For everything that you give — time, money, thought — I assure you, you will be rewarded ten-fold. As you move into the world and find success, do not forget your Alma Mater, the school that has given you a beginning; the teachers who have given of their best to you, their love, their consideration, their knowledge. We give you heartfelt love that shall permeate and follow you from now until eternity. S u l zfip-zzsL Page Eight ALBERT L. MEIBURG B.S., B.D., Th.D. Dean, Bible C. C. Al- though the team won only one game, the spirit and strong de- termination of these boys were always high. The team was coached by Mr. George Tucker, a native of Monroe, North Carolina, and a graduate of East Carolina. Coach Tucker will lose only six boys from this year ' s team via gradua- tion, so the football future at Wingate should be bright for next year and the years to come. Through it we are endowed with a true democratic spirit and enabled to promote closer student-faculty co-operation. There are two main departments of the Student Government, which strive to fulfill all duties and obligations successfully. Most important is the Student Council which is composed of the presi- dent of each class, the president of each dormitory on the cam- pus, and the ex-officio members which are the Dean of Men, Dean of Women, and the Academic Dean. The duty of the Stu- dent Council is to perform all acts which may be necessary and proper in the exercise of its powers as the Council of the Stu- dent body. The Student Honor Council consists of nine members. Its members are the president, vice-president, and secretary of the Student Body, three representatives from the Sophomore Class, two representatives from the Freshman Class, one representative from the High School Class. The duty of the Student Honor Council is to receive, prefer, and try all charges of violations of the constitution, laws, rules, and customs of the Student Body as provided by statute and to promote the honor code.
