Faces From Dorm 11 The Athletic Dorm (D-11) is unique because it is home to most of the athletes at Wingate in grades 9- 12. It’s unique because everyone supports everybody else. On away games, Dorm 11 tries to take the rest of the students so they can cheer for their teammates. The staff’s concern for the student’s academic standing is evident. They keep a close watch on grades and failing lists so that Dorm 11 students remain academically eligible. The kitchen staff cooperates with the demands of the athletic schedules and provides hot meals before and after games when needed. Mr. Milliken, the Dorm Supervisor, has been at Wingate for eleven years. The Athletic Dorm was formed two years ago and has proven itself successful. This is what the kitchen staff faces throughout the school year as they serve four times daily; breakfast, split lunches, and dinner. On weekends, the schedule is changed slightly to three meals on Saturday and a brunch on Sunday for those who do not go home. During the weekdays, certain classes ' are required to help serve chow at lunch. For breakfast and dinner, the different dorms take turns every month. When there are school sponsored trips, the kitchen provides sack lunches for the students who seem to enjoy their goodies. Family members are invited to eat with the students at the cafeteria for Thanksgiving and Christmas with staff members helping to serve. The kitchen is the scene for special event banquets such as Prom, ROTC Ball, and the Athletic Banquet.
