Minnie Tom and other students arrived on campus on August 20 for registration. Louise Kirk, Registrar, and unofficial bur exceptional receiver, Raynell Harrison, greeted the over 400 more students than last year, who waited, stood in lines, and answered questions fo become part of the WHS family. WHS, originally built ro honor an 1868 committment to educate Navajo children, enlarged its 1984 horizons by recruiting students from orher tribes. Papagos, Zunis, Hopis, Gila River Pimas, Islera Pueblos, Menominees, and Warm Springs, as well as teachers from schools thar had recently closed their doors, joined the spirited old- timers, and a new song was born: Waving streamers in the Sourhwest wind, Pom Pom girls with megaphones, Uniformed marchers, green-robed singers, Princesses, players, personalities, Joggers, jammers, and joiners, Echoing the spirit song Snake their way ro the primitive fire To chant in unison.
