CIASS PROPHECY Senior Class 19511 55 As I was glancing through my mail this evening, I came upon an important look ing envelope Upon opening it, I found to my surprise an invitation to the Veiled Prophet Ball 1rh1ch was to be held on October 10, 1963 at 8:30 p m When I arr1ved at the Ve1led Prophet Ball, I las met at the door by Miss America of 1963, Joan Powelson, who was wearing her famous Ermine bathing su1t designed by Jeri from Paree lhile walking through the crowd, I met Mrs Connle CHoeltingJ Bins who gave up her dreams of becoming a New York model to marry the well known, wealthy, contractor, K D Bins Connie informed me that her hus band was home taking care of their small son, Kenn , Jr While talking to her, I saw John Dixon who was now owner of the Standard Oil Compan and who was loaded with money Glancing toward the door I saw Bill and Deanna Holmes They have been happily married for five years Bill has become owner of the famous A L LaRue Feed Store and a new Rolls Royce In the press box on one side of the room, I noticed three of my former class mates, Anna Mae Beck meyer, James Houston, and Duaine Blackmore I went over to speak to them and found that James was an all night disc jockey on his own T V about the ball for the St louis Blackmore Dispatch of which Duaine is the owner After thirteen unsuccessful marr1ages, Anna Mae is writing an advice to theWLover lorn Column' in the paper In the Honored Guest section I saw two familiar faces, Jackie Johnson, f1rst Woman Ambassador to Madagascar, and Ethel Lou Argent who had flown in from the mission field in the Belgian Congo Arriving at my seat I noticed on my left a chic looking black head and dis covered it was Lola Anne Davis who is now a famous Torch S1nger, and she has torchered more than 200 records in the past few years Glancing at m program, I noticed the gowns were designed by Jeri from Parse, the former Jerry Birkhead, who has hls own designlng company The excit ment was tremendous as the Veiled Prophet entered the room I later learned that the veiled Prophet was another one of my class mates, Ioyd Groshong The court announcer, John Prosser, who gives commercials on the radio, announced the arrival of the Queen Much to our surprise, the queen was Miss Sherry Taylor another Winfield girl She was escorted in by Kenneth Bale now the Mayor of St Louis After the ball, we went to the famous Gold Room of the Jefferson Hotel for dinrer The hotel was under new management of Elmer Murphy Refreshments wer given to all by Helen fReeseJ Bush VI who now owns the Hillside Tavern at Old Monroe The only member of the class not present was Loyce East who was in a spot light of her own She was the first woman from Winfield to swim the English C annel station, J. W. H. Duaine Blackmore and Anna Mae were collecting the latest news
