BOYS' BASKETBALL Winfield's basketball season was successful in games won and lost. We compiled a 16 won and '7 loss overall record. The highlight of the season was the winning of the sectional tournament at Washington with victories over Washington, Columbus Junction and Wayland. Our squad received added strength this year with the Wyman hardcourtsters. In evaluating the season, one factor contributed more than any other thing to Winfield 's success, our bench strength. The boys showed marked im- provement at the end of the season after a mild recession around the mid- point ofthe season. High scorers were J. Berkshire with 310 points, C. Miller with 281, G. Buffington with 237, E. Rathmell with 172, T. Carden with 176 and C. Zerbe with 102. FRESH-SOPH BASKETBALL FRONT ROW - L. Beauchamp, G. Little, R. Lauderdale, E. Kirkpatrick, J. Wolf, J. Bargar, and M. Owens. BACK ROW - L. Youngman, G. Schneider, L. Mathews, D. Nelson, H. Gipple, D. Gipple and T. Dunn, B. Stucker, manager. GIRLS' BASKETBALL Our girls' team in their first year of basketball here came through the season with a 3 won and 9 loss record. The squad was partially composed of experienced players from Wyman. The season included several close games with the girls showing steady im provement. The squad was handicapped by lack of height especially in the guard court. The scoring for the season was as follows: M. Paisley with 226 points, P. Holmes with 213, M. Kracaw with 103, N. bong with 29 and L. Bitting with 10. The guards who saw the most action were D. Owens, C. Crawford, L. Buffington, J. Hall and F. Williams.
