H. VAUGHAN T. H. Curly Vaughan is part of the history of Winfield High School. lt was Mr. Vaughan who organized the Hi-Y Club at Winfield High School in 1916 and he was the head sponsor until his retirement last year. Curly Vaughan came to Winfield as tennis coach and teacher in 1917. Since that year, he has had 24 state championships in tennis, fourteen of which have been in the past eleven years. Four times he has had the doubles and singles champions in the same year. ln the 193O's, he had the Ark Valley girls' championships four years consecutively. ln addition to these, he has had many teams go to national tennis tournaments. The school year of T958-i959 has had many activities of thfs type. Frorn the first day of school this year it was evi- dent that the majority of our students had a sincere desire to obtain the rnaximum benefits from their educational opportunities. Many of our students have enioyed the satisfaction of doing outstanding academic work. Our athletic teams, especially our first Ark Val- ley League football championship team, have en- ioyed fnuch success during the year and have pro- vided our community with a wholesome activity. Our music organizations have continued their fine contributions in the concerts, contests, and public performances. The outstanding work accom- plished in the presentation of Brigadoon will al- ways be remembered as a highlight of this school year. Roomful of Roses and The Diary of Anne Frank were ambitious dramatic productions which challenged the abilities of our students. These chal- lenges were met and conquered. Neither time nor space is available to mention all of the fine accomplishments of Winfield High School students, but I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the co-opera- tion and performance of our students during the i958-1959 school year. My best wishes for all of you. Bill Medley OLIVER HIEBERT, Assistant Principal, PAT BREWER, Secretary Principal fi, K 3 1 if V 1 ., ,. 5 L T? You have all done a good job this past year and l'm sure you have profited from it, We have accomplished much this year through our various committees. I would especially like to thank the members of the constitution committee, Tu Jarvis, Buddy Akin, Mary Bingle, Jackie Snod- grass, and Alvin Lowry for the great amount of work which they have put into presenting the student body with an ac- ceptable constitution. It has been proven in our national government that the two people who are the most help to the presi- dent are his vice-president and secretary. This was definitely true this past year. Both my vice-president, Paul McKnab, and secre- tary, Nola Veley, have been a tremendous help to me. l would like to wish everyone the best of luck in your future years and I hope that you will all have as many pleasant mem- ories as l have had. Dick Cate STUDENT COUNCIL BODY - v TUDE T COUNCIL A Student Council was started in T921 to aid in the over-all planning and organizing of the various phases of the school's activity program to make recom- mendations regarding policies which attect the social lite ot the school, and to represent student opinion to the faculty. The committees are a large part of the Student Council, Without the large share ot the work that the committees do, the Council would probably cease to function. Larry Schwintz headed the Harbor Committee. The Assembly Cofnrnittee was headed by Kay Martin. Rhona Gordon was in charge ot the Social Committee. The Welcofne Committee was headed by John Diclcen. In charge ot the Safety Comrnittee was W. L. Sidwell. George Narvaes headed the Drive Committee and Wesley Moore the Publicity Committee.
