The journalism class is always on ac- tive duty compiling material for the Ora- cle and Lagondan. Q Journalism The printing stu- dents pictured here show only a repre- sentative group of the five classes. This picture was taken in the press room. Journalism students and printing classes compiled the everday events in the Winfield Public schools and put them before the students in the Oracle and the Lagondan. Billie Lou Carrell served as editor of the Lagondan with Danny King as business manager. The entire class compiled the material for the yearbook. John Hill Cfirst semesterj and Patricia Taylor fsecond semesterl were editors of the Oracle while Lois Atkinson was assistant editor tfirst semesterl and Billie Lou Carrell. fsecond semesterl. Shirley Hammond was business manager of the Oracle. Other members of the class were M irie McFarland, Jack King, Jeanne Swanholt, Patty Hull, Lloyd Woods, Gwenda Guild, and Lynn Casselberry, ffirst semesterl. Thelma Bussard is journalism instructor. Q Printing The printing course in WHS is of'fered to boys and girls and is open to students from the ninth to twelfth grades inclusive. The course is organized to correlate closely with other subjects in the curriculum. The two major publications of the school, the Winfield Oracle and the Lagondan, are printed by the students of the printing classes. In addition most of the printed forms used in the administration of Winfield Public Schools and many of the programs used by the organizations of the high school are printed in the school shop. Lauren War-ford is the instructor in charge of these classes. Page 25

Q Band of the Vikings X . With a gentle tap of the baton Earl Dungan starts his first year as hand and orches- tra conductir in Winfield Hiizh School. From the first roll of the drums and the ring of the trumpets as the h-ind marches on the footbz ll fiell to the last note of Headlines in the district contest, the band played :in important part in Winfield High School activities. School spirit was rogisel in assemblies and basketball game when the down heat was given for Onward Winfield for the start of the game. 9 Vikings' Orchestra With Ada Mae Maddox as convertmistress the orchestra prepared and 1 layed two concerts during' the year.
