school mrrntarrred at Cabot undcr the drrcctrorr of Berrrrcc Martrrr and Isabel Sandcrson and a two roorrred burldrrrg at lycst lyrnfreld whrch was taught by Mary l'oy and l-lorence McC,all Durrng the summer of 32 a comrnercral course was added to the Hrgh School and Nlyers Hoffman was rn charge Enrd I-ruth was employed to take over some of thc dutres of C1 Cray and Nm lsetterrng lyrth thc closrng but no plans were nradc In 1930 Robcrta Shrelds took a teachrng posrtrorr rn Buffalo Fownshrp and Helen Dcnrry took her place Iebruary 8 1931 marked the second attempt at an addrtron to the school burldrna by Jornt rncetrngs w th the school board of efferson Clrnton and Buffalo lownshrps and Saxonlrurg Borough lhc nerghborrng drstrrcts dccrdcd they worrld be unrblc to jorn at thrs trmc So on 'NI rrclr 31 ohn l'hr11rps prescrrtcd plans for the proposcd ncw rddrtron to thc burldrng calculrtcd to house thc hrgh school wlrrch was to rnclude the Home lzc course for thc grrls and Xocatronal ag and shop for the boys Plans were also made to add typrng to the commercral department On 'Slay 17 the plans were accepted by the school board and were adyertrsed for brds to be open on Nlay 26 1931 All brds were consrdered too hrgh and were tabled Once agarn the dreams of a new burldrng farled Ihe term of 31 39 saw C eorge C erble lerve the drstrrct and Dorrs H111 took hrs place On anu rry 1 1938 thc ncw burldnrg pl rns were rcadyertrsed for openrng Nlarch ll 'I hc gcneral contract w rs awardcd to lrclrno and Rerraldr at S27 8119 the wrrrng went to R L C retzncr at S1 M1 whrlc G Hertwcck took the plurnhrng at S3 059 and thc Columbus Heatrng and Ventrlatrng Company took the contract for the heatrrrg systcm at S4 080 The sewage drsposal plant contract was awarded to -X C jones at S51 3.11 or on a total burldrng cost of 3537 945 when frnrshed and equrpped the new burldmff cost approxrmately S45 000 September 0 1938 found the new burldmg rn operatron For the 38 39 term Julra Olryer resrgnecl and Nlarron Lefeyer was elected rn the elerrrentary whrle Rebecca Truxal took charge of the new Home Economrcs Department rnd T N Clayton was statroned rn the new shop Isabel C rlnrore was elected rn Mrss Olryer s place and janet Roudybush took the place of Dorothy Stepp Due to crowded condrtrons rn the ly est YVrnf1c1d school the 1th grade was transported to the Consolrdated School The two rooms rn the old Academy Burldrng were also closed and Floyd Beck was agarn elected to a teachrng posrtron rn the hrgh school 1939 saw Hugh Shearer come rn as a member of the faculty Durrng the wrnter of 39 40 Mr Clayton held nrght school rn the shop whrch mrght be attended by folks of the communrty 1910 saw Dorrs Hrll and Rcbeccr Truxal lca mg Wrnfrcld whrle Helen Rowe and Carolyn Rumbrugh took oyer therr work Durrng thrs ycar thc academy Burldrng was sold to Carl Pattcrson X Dental Health Clrrrrc w rs set up rn the school under thc ausprces of Dr Nloore In 1949 Mrss Rumhaugh and Helen Rowe sought other employment whrle Sara Holben and Eyelyn Hughes took then rlaces -X musrc department was rrrstalled wrth Iors Snodgrass as the supervrsor 42 also saw the school populatron begrnnrng to out grow the burldrng In uly the large strrdy and Lrbrarv was partrtroned to make two class rooms and the stage was also t rrned rnto a class room 1942 16 bernff war ycars the school was rn more or less of a turnrorl Sometrmes there was a full teachrnq staff and agrrn the fa ulty ran short YVrth the teatners takrnr a heayrer load Ruth Hespenherde Frank jack Nlartrn Thompson Ruth Iloyd janet Hayes Bettv Sherwm Emmalrne McC1ymonds alma NIcCrady and others came onto the faculty Some of these are wrth us yet others haye left There were 115 boys and grrls who had graduated from lyrnfreld Hrgh A sn I the Snooper have just arrlved back w1th the latest report on the Semor Class of 1946 The flrst stop on my schedule was Callersvrlle where I met many old friends who gave me much mformatlon about the Sentors of 1946 Havtng arrxved late at ntght I was met at the tram depot by Mayor Charles Kasco who escorted me to my room ln the Callersvtlle Hotel After a good ntghts rest I arose early the next noon and went out for breakfast Whtle walkmg down the street I met Melbourne Bauer and joe Weber some of the countys lug ttme farmers who had brought thetr farm products 1nto the market After talkmg to them for some tlme I left them and went mto a nearby restaurant, Stttmg down at a table and lookrng at the menu I dtdn t nottce the wattress who was standmg near by but when I gave my order I looked up and saw that ll was jean Sasse She told me that she had been workxng here for qulte some ttme and enjoyed her work very much After breakfast I went to vtstt the local high school now under the supervlston of Professor Rrchard Cunnmgham As he showed me through the school he took me 1nto the Home Ec department where Ruth I-ox IS the Instructor She was showmg the gtrls new steps ln home makmg Ella jeuther and jerry McDermott the school coaches l1ad the varslty teams rn the gym gtvmg them mstructtons for the next game At the present both teams are n frrst place rn the county league I ate my lunch at another restaurant lt was very del1c1ous and naturally tt would be because Mary jane Sefton IS the thetluan As I left the hotel I nottted '1 txowd standing out front There had been an automoblle accldent Viola ablonskt and Malgatet Nloore nurses from the hospital were there seeing that the xnjured were taken care of Among the crowd were Audtne Bargerstock who wrxtes the Soctety Column for the local newspaper and Beyerly Hesselgesser who IS an atr stewardess 'Ihey were on thexr way to Carrxe Cosentmos weddtn whrch was this afternoon at 4 00 oclock Ftrst they were gomg to Vxolet Mosers beautv salon to have thetr han waved They asked me to Jom them and then go to the weddmg later I told them I would meet them m front of Helen Retth s sewmg school IN hen I met them we boarded a bus which was drxven by ll'Il Mttttca XVe had qtute a talk w1th tm He sand that Thomas Hamtlton IS the countv mtlk tester and that Clarence Zler drtves the Farm Bureau gasolme truck As we reached the doors of the church we could hear the weddmg muslc The church was beautxfully decorated wxth pretty sprxng flowers from Helen Baumgartels Conservatory The Rev Father Ronald Keasey offrctated at the weddmg I dldn t recognxze many at the weddmg except Marton Xhse and Esther McCall I was told that they were secretarxes for Rxchard Woods law ftrm As I left the church and got on the bus I dectded to attend a dance at the Callersvxlle nxght club I got off the bus tn front of a large de artment store whlch had many beauttful Pall'lllIlgS dtsplayed tn the wmdow I happened to g ance at the sxgnature and here was Dorls Btckers name I chose a very beauttful pamtmg and when I went to pay for rt I saw that Martha Lou Hamrlton was the cashrer After dmner that eventng I went to the dance and was ushered to a table by Helen Zettle who IS an usherette at the club I arrned just rn ttme because the curtain was gomg up Stanley Langston and Hts Mustcal Gangstets wert the orchestra engaged for the CVLIllllg A rumor was clrculatlng around that he was gOlIlg to Hollywood soon After seyeral muslcal numbers lt was announced that there would be a floor show The dancers came on stage and gate a yery good show I learned later that they attended JIITI Slmpson s dancmg school WVhen the floor show was oyer I returned to my hotel room and prepared for my departure ln the mornlng I got up early the next mornmg gathered my belongmgs and went down to pay my hotel btll I handed the clerk my money and thanked htm for the good servtce the hotel employees had gnen me during my short stay I'he clcrk secmed so fI'lClIdlW that I looked up and here ll was none other than Gerald Xhse I had a yery mtetestmg v1s1t so you future graduates had better be good because I wrll be around next year to get a report Good by now unttl May 31 1957 THE SNOOPER 1 1 1 . 1 1 - 1 V V . 1 . - , . . 1 1 . .
