v-Y uf' Language Arts Junior Typing Class In the language arts, English and Spanish, an interested audience crowded out the students. Mr. Irwin explained the need and usefulness of Spanish in our modern day when so many of our boys in the armed forces are moved from place to place. Many of them arrive in the deep South where Spanish is spoken a great deal. Sr. George Marie showed how practical English can be made when several students gave reports from recent materials especially those in the Readers Digest. The school edition of this little magazine proves a great help in keeping up with the latest developments in every field of human endeavor. Typing to music makes for unity andhelps to increase speed in this very practicalaccomplish- ment. The juniors here display their sl-:ill to their surprised and delighted parents. Mr. Spotts holds the interest of a group of parents as he explains the aims of his agricultural program. As this is a dairy-farming area it is easy to find a practical application for his many projects such as hog and dairy cattle judgingg soil analysisg soil conservation, insect and other pest controls. Come and get it was all that was necessary to announce at the end of the program. All visitors gathered in the cafeteria where the senior girls aided by Mrs. Mills served delicious cake and punch. The students entertained with a few school songs before they joined in the feast. Parents and other guests were most enthusiastic in their praise of the work being accomplished and wished that they might be pupils once again to enjoy all the modern conveniences of a stream- lined education. 11959 stylej -v-v ' . . 1 E Famil Gathe in Cafeteria Agriculture Class

43 .hr inn! Sr. George Marie instructs Juniors and Seniors in English. Spanish has proved to be quite inte resting :specially the reading and conversation. We lad no idea it could be so entertaining. We are at a loss sometimes to do some trans- .ating and what we succeed in putting on :aper doe sn't always mean what it should. We find that we no can speake the Spanish muy Jien. You see, amigo mio, we no have studied our lesson as we should and so our espanol no is very good . But some day we are going to surprise you and speak Spanish so fluently that no one around here will be able to comprehend. English When it comes to English, it's a subject you just can't get away from these days. Every time you open your mouth now somebody is checking on your correct or incorrect use of English. It used to be that only the teachers would check on our use of correct English, but now youaren't safe any- where. Somebody is sure to be ready with pencil and paper to take down your incorrect usage and face you with it in English class. lt certainly makes us watch our p's and q's these days. v ' Trojan Express Staff checks copy Aqui se habla espanol. Freshmen and Sophomores Although our school paper The Trojan Express has made only afew appearances this year we feel that it has done quite a good job each time. By means ofthis paper we acquaint our companions and members of our little community with many of our activities and accomplishments which Z might otherwise escape notice. 1 Mr. George Beaman, coachand fresh- man sponsor, has added this task to an ' already crowded schedule. The members fi--N. L ia. . of his staff too are quite busy with school work as most of the members are taking six subjects which calls for a full day. Q This is the main reason why the Trojan Express has not made it s appearance oftener. And as for a lack of news, why, we could publish a daily paper with all the things that happen here every hour.
