SUPERINTENDENT AND SCHOOL BOARD Mr. Peter Irwin, Superintendent, Ed Conrady, George Veitenheimer, A. J. Be- rend, Lambert Osterman, S. R. Wolf, Joe Schreiber, and Lawrence Berend. HISTORY OF THE WINDTHORST SCHOOL When the doors of the Windthorst school first opened on February 17, 1893, there were 50 students and three teachers. In this 64 year span will be found a story of human sacrifice, trials, and achievements which is repeated in most of the pioneer settlements throughout this great American nation. Some people will be impressed with the material progress, the economic conditions, build- ings, enrollments, and the concrete details of this organization. Some will be pre -occupiedwith cold facts, such as the year 1925, a milestone in the development of this school whenatwo-year high school was addedand again the year 1935 when two more years of school were made avail- able, thus bringing the total to a 12 year school system. Another important date is 1954 when a brand-new 5150, 000. 00 high school plant was completed. The year 1956 saw another great stride taken when the Texas Education Agency awarded full accreditation status to the school. At the present time there are 219 students and 12 teachers on the Staff, with an Agricultural program being added to the curriculum.
