COMMERCIAL STUDIES The Commercial Subjects offered our school are bookkeeping, ityping 1 shorthand. Pupils taking these :jects are given an opportunity to rnpete with others for a job in the siness world. In fact, a knowledge bookkeeping and typing is. necessary ' everyone. Every farmer today is .iged to keep so many records that pays to be his own secretary, if he nts to be able to run a profitable ainess. Juniors show skill in typing. There is a great demandfor secretaries and bookkeepers today and the pay is usually good. A knowledge of typing is useful to everyone, no matter what his calling or profession. The college student needs it to type his themes and term papersg the housewife needs it to fill out the many forms she receives each year and for correspondence in her club workg the self-employed manneeds it to carry on his businessp the teacher needs it for much of his work Outside the classroom. In short, just about everyone should know how to type correctly Eleanor guides future bookkeepers. Shorthand also comes in useful not only for the secretary taking dictation but also when aperson has to take notes in class or at a lecture. However in the business World the dictaphone is gra- dually replacing shorthand because in this way, the boss can dictate his letters in the comfort and privacy of his own home or in the office after hours. This saves valuable time for the boss and keeps down needless expenses.
