BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT The faculty and student body of Wmdthorst H1gh de 1ded to sponsor a Back to School n1ght1n order to g1ve arents a fn' st hand ghmpse of what the1r chxldren actually o at school each day A schedule of classes was sent to he parents 1n advance to acquamt them w1th the program hey would follow Where there were 2 or more students n h1gh school from one famrly each parentwas asked to hoose the schedule of one and try to follow lt 3 ,..-' .,, ,157 J Parents at General Assembly ACt1V1t1eS began promptly at 7 OO p m w1th an as sembly 1n the gym Student Councxl pres1dent Robert Ste1nbe1-ger welcomed the parents and 1ntroduced the members of the counc1l who gave br1ef talks on the pur pose and accomphshments of student government H also 1ntroduced Mr Irwm who gave a br1ef address and then turned lt over to sen1or class pres1dent Kenny Ray Wolf who gave f1nal1nstruct1ons to the attent1ve aud1ence Sr Ambros1a 1nstructs 1n chemlstry Classes started promptly at 8 O0 p m and each class asted 10 m1nutes. Parents were asked to move qu1ckly o the next class as only 3 m1nutes were allowed for the 'hange of classes. There was to be no talkmg xn the 'orr1dors. From class to class the parents progressed, com- rlaining that 10 rninutes was too short a time even to get started. In some classes pupils gave demonstrations of he studies and skills theywere acquiringg while in others eachers showed what were the objectives in teaching a :articular course. All the parents agreed that they would ike to return to school again as textbooks, materials Lnd methods were so much more interesting thanwhen :hey attended school. The new unit in shop and agriculture was a great .ttraction especially for the men. Although much work -emained to be done on this section of the school plant, 'et it made a great impression on the visitors. As the ladies land some of the rnenlcame out of Mrs. 3rosch's Home -economics department one comment could me heard on all sides. That candy was delicious! It Senlgr parents 11313311 vouldn't do for me to be around here to much. I'dput on oo much weight No wonder' If you could see and taste he delicious candy being made and served for free you'd attentively in Religion lnde r stand At the close of classes all parents gladly retired to the cafeteria where refreshments were served A social atmosphere prevailed and conversations were quite lively as husband exchanged ideas withwife or with another person Students had hoped parents would feel sorry for them when they would see all they were supposed to learn but in most cases the OPPOS1tE Social gathering ends the day Looks good enough to eat wth w l is ll A U seems to prevail. ,' 1'-fx? f f' ' ' K ,
