In this 64 year span will be found a story of human sacrifice, trials, and achievements which is repeated in most of the pioneer settlements throughout this great American nation. Some people will be impressed with the material progress, the economic conditions, build- ings, enrollments, and the concrete details of this organization. Some will be pre -occupiedwith cold facts, such as the year 1925, a milestone in the development of this school whenatwo-year high school was addedand again the year 1935 when two more years of school were made avail- able, thus bringing the total to a 12 year school system. Another important date is 1954 when a brand-new 5150, 000. 00 high school plant was completed. The year 1956 saw another great stride taken when the Texas Education Agency awarded full accreditation status to the school. At the present time there are 219 students and 12 teachers on the Staff, with an Agricultural program being added to the curriculum. Let us not forget the real cause of the success of th1s school The organization stands where lt 13 today because there were enough people huxnan beings with the spirit and self sacrifice to build a good school in spite of the obstacles which stood in the way These basic and essential values expressed in terms of 1nd1v1dual suffering vision and devot1on to duty especially on the part of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word are the same 1ngred1ents of success which has made the town and commumty of Windthorst a thriving healthy and wholesome place to make a living and good place m which to live We will do well to appreciate those ideas which our pioneer fore fathers have handed down to us We will not be worthy to call ourselves their descendents 1f we do not carry the torch of learmng and our priceless Christian heritage forward and practice these principles 1n our da1ly lives History any real h1story 15 written 1n blood sweat and tears by people un selfish and cooperative people History IS never static never stands still we pause only to reflect upon the lesson and than today now to evaluate the past and apropos to our Dedication to show appreciation to our parentage those fathers and mothers who have bu1lt our familles and this commun1ty Without the1r earnest care and hard labors we would have nothing Knowing the strength of our solid Chr1st1an parents let us look to the Space Age un1ted and unafrard Peter Irwin Supe rmte ndent JE' , . , . . . . . , . . , . . . . , . , heritage of the past in order to build a better future. Each of these serves a special purpose in our education. Juniors and Seniors are exposed to American History. First of all in World History we become acquainted with the people and events of the past. From this we are able to see their mistakes so we may profit by them in our life. We are able to compare their progress and discoveries with ours and even with the missile program some- times we wonder if they weren't more advanced than we. Through our American History we gain knowledge of our background, ancestors and the people who fought so valiantly so we could have the freedoms and democratic form of government we have today. We are able with our improved knowledge to better our country and help in its pro- gress. Mr. Schroeder expounds World History to Sophomores. ln Civics we learn about out 'ernment. We develop ideas iow we can help. our government, I we can better understand it if aj lthus be good citizens. With all F' 43 se courses in social studies surely should be able to make our country even better place in which to live. n ,A NATH AND SCIENCE In th1s age of 'sputn1ks'and 'mutmks' not iay passes that we do not read 1n the da1ly per or hear on the rad1o and telev1s1on some ted accompl1shments 1n the f1eld of sclence dmathemat1cs To understand th1s 1nform Lonbetter we need a knowledge of sc1ent1 and mathernancal terms One of the ob t1ves of ou r sc1ence and mathemat1cs urses 15 to prov1de th1s knowledge bs' Chem1stry students learn to do b dolng Our school makes ava1lable to us the fol 'mg courses. Pupils taking these :jects are given an opportunity to rnpete with others for a job in the siness world. In fact, a knowledge bookkeeping and typing is. necessary ' everyone. Every farmer today is .iged to keep so many records that pays to be his own secretary, if he nts to be able to run a profitable ainess. Juniors show skill in typing. There is a great demandfor secretaries and bookkeepers today and the pay is usually good. A knowledge of typing is useful to everyone, no matter what his calling or profession. The college student needs it to type his themes and term papersg the housewife needs it to fill out the many forms she receives each year and for correspondence in her club workg the self-employed manneeds it to carry on his businessp the teacher needs it for much of his work Outside the classroom. In short, just about everyone should know how to type correctly Eleanor guides future bookkeepers. Shorthand also comes in useful not only for the secretary taking dictation but also when aperson has to take notes in class or at a lecture. However in the business World the dictaphone is gra- dually replacing shorthand because in this way, the boss can dictate his letters in the comfort and privacy of his own home or in the office after hours. This saves valuable time for the boss and keeps down needless expenses.
