Text from Pages 1 - 184 of the 1987 volume:

In the first light of dawn we found an old chest along the shore. Intrigued by our discovery, we eagerly work the lock and latches in search of what lies within. Ill In the Crow’s Nest “He is a man who gives up much of his free time in order to help young people.” (Jeff Poirier) “Mr. Borchetta is special because he is involved. He dedicates much time, not only to school ac¬ tivities, but also to many activities which add to the community.” (Cathy Lowe) Reflecting back upon our voyage, we can see how his friendship and guidance have helped make our sailing smoother for the past four years. His contributions to our lives have been both in and out of school. Because he exerts effort that makes him our friend as well as our teacher, we, the members of the Class of 1987, dedicate our yearbook to: Mr. Frank Borchetta “Young people are worth being with.” Frank Borchetta 3 We stand on the deck of our ship. Looking behind we can still recognize the remains of both the stormy and calm seas through which we have sailed; 4 looking ahead we see a vast, inviting expanse of water beckoning us to sail onward and explore. 5 Safe on the deck, with our sails furled, we realize that we must once again lift anchor — the oceans before us are filled with the hint of danger as well as the promise of hidden treasure. 6 We examine the rudimentary map which our families, teachers, and crew mates have helped us piece together, and we are confident that our past experiences will enable us to navigate safely through the uncharted waters. 8 New adventures await us. The oceans ahead provide us with countless possibilities and directions. Armed with our newly created map, we are ready to embark upon our voyage. Our final destination will become clearer with each passing year; our ship will be enriched with each newfound treasure; our spirits will be renewed with each new conquest. £JN r e . l OckW f ’ tt 4 -ri £ ' j ' v 1 1 ijjj, f I EEVfiJI V iff Mtm New Man at the Helm Raymond Grasso came to Windsor Locks High School last September as a man im¬ pressed by the closeness of the school and community, and as a principal who would affect our environment and personal lives. Excited about his new position and looking forward to the work which lay ahead, he was prepared for the challenge. In the past year Mr. Grasso has become a vital part of our school, helping us grow as well as growing along with us. Sharing both our good and bad times, he has been a constant source of encouragement. The man and principal came here hoping to make a difference, and he has. Mr. Grasso, we thank you for all the knowledge you have shared with us, and we wish you well in your future years as principal. RAYMOND A. GRASSO, JR. For some of us the memories are of friends, parties, and relaxation; for others, sports, teachers, and homework. Whatever we have done in the past four years, we have found treasure. Familiar events — walking through the halls, talking with friends, games, and weekends, leave an impression when they are gone. Sometimes, however, we were so buried in our everyday routine that we failed to recognize the less visible, more valuable treasures we had been continually gathering — knowledge, ex¬ perience, respon¬ sibility, and a grow¬ ing sense of self worth. We now realize tha t these are the uncovered treasures of high school. We are ready to search for those which still remain hidden. We can’t search by staying where we are. “To Find treasure, you must take treasure with you.” 16 ASHLAND • II RICHARD ALBERT Co-Ordinates: 4° 6’68“ Escapades: Swim Team 1,2,3,4 Charted Course: To go to trade school to learn cabinet making Mark Ye Well: “Genius always finds itself a century too early.“-Emerson Steffy Treasure Chest: Partying with AG,RL,JC,LJ,DS,JH and DS; Prom weekend with JT,AG,MR,RL and KB; “Anybody up for ring toss?” JT,MR,KB; Wizard of Oz ; getting engaged 3-16-86 18 STEPHANIE DAWN ARGRAVES Co-Ordinates: 5° 31 ’69“ Escapades: Junior Prom 1st Runner-up; 11-16- 86 John; Mr. McKeown’s class with JC,NC,DR,SS 1,2,3,4; Hey Ron, “Dip me!;” English class 1,2 with ST Charted Course: To spend the rest of my life with John Mark Ye Well: “Love is sharing our brightest hopes, our darkest fears, our loudest laughs, our softest tears, our sweetest dreams, our bit¬ terest woes, our highest highs, our lowest lows.
