The river flows, forever onward. Made great by the input of small streams and tributaries, the river moves toward its fulfillment with a certain, undying rhythm. Its journey downstream is not always a smooth one. Obstacles, both external and internal, con¬ stantly challenge the calm waters. Although the river wants to become greater and stronger, its embank¬ ments, which direct its flow, sometimes confine and limit its growth. Although the river wants to move on unchallenged, the rocks over which it flows can disrupt its path. Whirlpools and undercurrents threaten to prevent its onward movement. If the river gives in, it will flow aimlessly in circles forever. However, if the river fights back it can swell in rebellious anger and overcome the whirlpools by sheer force of will and move on toward something greater and more challenging. Like the small streams and tributaries that flow into the river, we, as individuals, have contributed to the overall rhythm of our class. Sometimes that rhythm flowed easily, untroubled by worries or obstructions. At such times we were free to sit back and enjoy the song we had created. At other times, however, we, as individ¬ uals and as a class, had to overcome the hurdles in our path. There were times when we thought that rules and regulations were only there to hinder, instead of direct, our growth. Pressures, both social and academic, seemed to challenge our calm frame of mind. But. in the end, like the river, we overcame these obstacles and now are free to move onward in search of our ultimate goals. May we all be successful in the lives we choose to lead. o CM D bJD 03 Oh
