T.V. bringing you another presentation of This Is Your Life, a program which we hope will bring back pleasant memories of the past. Since most of the audience is composed of members of the Class of 1953, we decided to recall events of our high school days. The first chapter in our high school life begins during the years 1949- 1950. This was our Freshman year in high school, a hard year for most of us. The following officers were chosen: President, Stephen Bradley: Vice-President, Howard Nelson: Secretary, Fred Iohnson: Treasurer, Mary Brudz: Class Advisor, Mr. Iohn Lukens: Student Council Representatives, Frank Miller and Allan Frosch. During that year our advisor, Mr. Lukens, left our high school. Mr. Burton Christensen became our new advisor. A Get-Acquaintedu dance was given for our benefit by the seniors. A fashion show was also given with some of the freshman girls participating. That year Gordon Royce was the only fresh- man boy to get two letters in sports, thus making him the outstanding athlete of our class. We still remember the time some of the freshman boys attempted to throw some of the senior boys into the showers. Their plan backfired, and we must say that many of the freshman came out nice and clean. Still more interesting things happened to our class in the following year, 1950-51. In our Sophomore year we became more familiar with the high school routine and with the lunch hour rush Chalf an hourl. Our officers were: Presi- dent, Howard Nelson: Vice-President, Frank Miller: Secretary, Robert Dillon: Treasurer, Richard Evans: Class Advisor, Mr. Richard Blaisdell: Student Council Representatives, Cynthia Cox and Elizabeth Gould. Do you recall any incidents that bring back some memories of those happy days? We signed up for our class rings, which then seemed a very important event in our lives. The boys in our class who were athletic enthusiasts and made the soccer, baseball, and basketball teams were: Iames Cappello, Alan Folger, Daniel Ferraina, Gordon Royce, and Frank Miller. The two girls chosen from our class to cheer the basketball team on to victory were Bette Yawgel and Ianet Suschena. That year we gave a Farmer's Dance. The Dramatic Club entertained us with Miss Lonelyheart, in which Garry Stryker took part. Carol Lankarge, Ianet Suschena and Allan Frosch took a trip to the U. N. with other members of the history classes. These students came back well informed about the workings of this great organization. We also had some new students join us that year. They were: Iames Cappello, William Esmond, Ianice Schofield, Albert Healy, and George Roy. Now let us see what events took place in our Iunior year, 1951-1952. Our officers were: President, Howard Nelson: Vice-President, Elizabeth Gould: Secretary, Carol Lankarge: Treasurer, Arthur Golding: Class Advisor, Mr. Richard Blaisdell: Student Council Representatives, Iohn Unghire and Shirley Lasky. That year brought still greater events and many more activities. We received our class rings, an event which made us feel as if we belonged to the school. Then came our Iunior-Senior prom, called Floral Fantasy. Howard Nelson was chosen king. Besides being a very enjoyable dance, it was also profit- 50 able. The main decorations for this dance were white fences covered with real flowers and green moss. Our class dance of the year, which we called Ship Wreck turned out to be very successful. Pirates and sailors were in style for this event. Our basketball team was better than it had been in previous years, for we missed going to the tournament by only one game. Iudy Strahan, Sue Dickinson, and Lyn Cardillo were the three girls chosen from our class for the cheerleading squad. As this year came to a close, we started preparing our thoughts for entering the new Windsor High School and our last year in high school. The new students who joined our class were: Gerry Robinson, Alan Morrell, Kenneth Longley, Angela Kot, Roberta Beach and Verna Murray. At the end of the year some of our teachers left: namely, Miss Audrey Oldach, Miss Elsie Owen and Mrs. Alice Templeton. Now we come to the final phase in our high school career, our Senior year, 1952-1953. That was the year of great excitement for our class. Our officers included: President, Howard Nelson: Vice-President, Stephen Bradley: Secretary, Diane Backman: Treasurer, Ianet Granger: Class Advisor, Miss Catherine Devine? Student Council Representatives, Sue Groskritz and Daniel Ferraina. Do you recall any of the most important events of our last year in school? We entered the new Windsor High School. We of the student body really surprised the faculty by being able to find our way around right from the start. We were the first seniors to enter the new school and to graduate from it. We considered it a great honor. Until the cafeteria was completed, we had half-day sessions. What a happy eight weeks those were! We seniors gave the first social affair in the new school, the traditional Sadie Hawkins dance. Students portraying the important characters were: Lil' Abner, Bill Sawka: Daisy Mae, Ianice Schofield: Sadie Hawkins, Ioan Brown: Mammy Yokum, Helen Kostyk: Pappy Yokum, Don DeGray. One day early in the winter both faculty and students had a most enjoyable day playing host to a group of teachers from foreign countries. These teachers, who came from Asia, Africa, Europe and Mexico, visited classes and spoke to the students. As the close of the school day the Windsor High School faculty entertained their guests at a tea. The Christmas spirit was not lacking in Windsor High for at Christmas time the Senior Choir caroled throughout the halls, since neither our gym- nasium nor auditorium was finished. For the first time in the history of Windsor High School, the seniors assisted Dr. Warren Silliman in the program to recruit blood donors. We never knew that anemia was so prevalent. This year, though we had a losing season, winning only four games, the spirit of our basketball team never wavered. The players were fighting to the end. The fans were faithful. Many of the seniors who worked Friday nights would be seen drifting in at the half. The boys who helped to win those four games were, Swisher Royce and Fighting Ferraina. We planned for our Senior Semi-Formal which was held on February 14. It was appropriately named the Sweetheart Ba1l. Red and white streamers decorated the hall. The king and queen's throne consisted of an enormous red heart as the background. Protruding from the heart was a platform of white on which were two white ornamental iron chairs. The king and queen's crowns were silver with red and gold hearts forming a circle, but even the uncrowned heads felt like Cinderella and her Prince Charming. The colors of the gowns, which were all the softest shades of pastels, added much glamor to the occasion. The fragrance of the flowers and the soft, dreamy music seemed to put everyone into a world of his own. The new students who joined our class this year were Robert Cleaver and Carol Dart. Yes, this was the life of the Class of 1953. 51 LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF TI-IE CLASS OI' 1953 We, the class of 1953 of Windsor High School, town of Windsor, in the county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, being of sound mind and in our usual state of clear intelligence do hereby bequeath the following articles, memories, and tokens to the people whom we feel are in most need of them.
