a Rear'd 1Dime Windsor High School Windsor, IL 61957 Vol. 61 2 Tabic of Contcnis Welcome to the 1984 Pow Wow! In our four years of high school, we spend 724 out of 1460 days in “the old brick prison.” We share a lot in those four years: everything from dates, friends, classes, and smiles to laugh- ter and tears. When we leave, we will always have these memories. We have put these ideas together in the book this year in hope that, when you look through your yearbook twenty years from now, you will be able to remember these events as if they were happening all over again. You can tell your children all about “Mr. G” or about the basketball game of the year. We hope that when you flip through the pages, all the memories of 1984 come to mind. We know we didn’t catch them all, but here are just a few of the moments “All in A Year’s Time.” Get a job! Instant replay. A tribute to the seniors. Your momma dresses you funny Yea. Rah! Snaps 3 Dedication for Mr. Seng Mr. Seng held many positions in the faculty of Windsor High School. He began work here in 1951 and continued until he retired at the end of the school year in 1983. He went from teaching chemistry, biology, general science and physics as well as holding the position of assistant coach for both the basketball and baseball teams to serv- ing as principal and finally superintendent. His work was never ending, and he spent countless even- ings after school to attend to it. He also attended all the extracurricular activities of the school, home and away, that were possible. As the school finances grew smaller and smaller, he struggled to keep the budget under control in an ever-changing school system. To Mr. Seng we owe a lot of the continuity of our school policies. He was always willing to listen to ideas of how things could be improved. Having an open mind is a very important quality for an administrator to possess; it enables him to look at situa- tions from many different viewpoints. Mr. Seng possessed this and many other characteristics that made him an able administrator. W'e looked to Mr. Seng for leadership and guidance for many years, and it will be difficult without him to lead the way. Fortunately, he left the school in such an organized condition that his successor will be able to manage well. We. the Pow-Wow Staff of 1983-84, would like to thank Mr. Seng for the years that he gave to this school and its students. We would also like to tell him that all of his work was deeply appreciated and will be for many years to come. Finally we would like to wish him happiness and luck during his new “leisure” time; may he enjoy it. 4 Dedication for Mr. Seng Memorial The Pow Wow staff of 1983-84 remembers Mrs. Keller fondly. She began teaching at Windsor High School in the fall of 1961. She taught English and speech over her ca- reer, which spanned twenty-two years upon her retirement in the summer of 1983. Her work consisted of more than just the teaching of textbook subjects. One of her main activities was in the Held of drama. She spent many late nights directing the junior and senior plays with little recognition for her hard work. Her only reward might be a charm which she would add to the bracelet full of charms which proudly dangled from her wrist. She also served as the advisor for the Thespian and Speech Club and managed to generate much excitement for the theater work. Mrs. Keller always added a special element to her teaching. She could, by her own vitality and enthusiasm, make the most “boring story interesting and the most indolent student learn. She really gave of herself in all of her teaching, and her ab- sence is greatly noticed. The stories in English don’t quite seem the same because they aren’t told with the same aura of theatrics and life that she gave them. The loss of Mrs. Keller is felt especially hard since this is the first year without her. She was loved by all, and it still seems difficult to believe that she is no longer with us. At times it is hard to understand why she was taken, but: “Sometimes it’s hard to understand why these things have to be But we know that there arc reasons that we often cannot see. And we can only trust in God and know that in some way It's all a part of his great plan and we’ll understand some day.” Memorial 5 6 Mr. Seng. Editors We, the editors of the 1984 Pow Wow would like to show our appreciation to the following people: Mrs. Vjars- land, who sat so patiently during our late night meetings; Kristina Daily, who provided us with a lot of the copy for the yearbook; Patricia Schmidt, who spent so many lonely hours up in the typing room trying to get the typesheets done; Tne 1984 Pow Wow staff, who showed up at the meetings even though they had to miss DALLAS and DYNASTY. , We would also like to thank Ernie Newberry for the superb job of taking pictures for the yearbook and WHS faculty for their patience and understanding while we ungraciously interrupted their classes. This yearbook shows you only a very small amount of time, but behing the people in these pfetures, there is a hope of what is to come and a fond memory of the past four years. Susie Manley. This administration consists of Harold Means, the district superintendent who also performs the duties of a principal at the grade school, and Alice T. Mea- dor, the high school principal. Their credentials are quite impressive. Mr. Means received his B.S. in Education in 1956 from Eastern Illinois Universi- ty. where he majored in P.E. and minored in social studies. He was granted his M.S. in Educational Administration from Eastern in 1968 and a Specialist in Educational Admin- istration in 1973. Mrs. Meador received her B.S. in Education and her MS. in Educational Administration from Eastern also. She also has the distinction of being the first woman principal at Windsor High School. That in itself is an important achieve- ment. With their impressive credentials and their past teaching experience, we are sure of the able capacity of these two individuals. Their ability to capably handle disturbing prob- lems has already been seen this year. We are quite pleased with our new administration and their handling of school policies. May they continue to do such a superb job. BOARD OF EDUCATION Seated: Brenda Baughcr. Richard Cole. Kenneth Daily: Standing: Jon Phipps. James Rcntfrow. Nancy Gass. Gene Goodwin. Richard Phillip Hile. Jr. December 7, 1963 — February 22. 1984 Dick, or Dickie, as he was probably better known, was a 1983 graduate of Windsor High School. His biggest dis- tinction was in the field of F.F.A. He was always proud of that organization and all involved with it. He won many awards in the fields of agriculture including Star Green- hand, Star Sophomore, Star Chapter Farmer and Star Senior. He was first in both the recycling program and the soil judging team. He willingly served our local chapter and his section both as an officer and a worker. He was reporter and vice-president of the school’s chapter and was named Section 19’s treasurer last year, which was quite an honor. He won many more awards that are too numerous to count, but they were very important to him. Not only did he work enthusiastically for F.F.A.. but he was also a member of the Pep Club for two years, a basketball player for one year, a member of the Chess Club and was voted Most Dependable by his senior class. He felt that religion should be an important part of one’s life, and he himself attended the Ash Grove Christian Church. What really made Dick (Dickie) so special was his personality. He was a truly good and sweet person. He always worked so hard to please everyone and never harmed a single person, and he succeeded quite magnifi- cently. He was one that could always be relied upon to do whatever task needed to be done. He leaves behind many people that he loved and who loved him also. R.D.P.. J.M.S. and K.L.D. especially remember Dick, the many memories, and how much they love him. His life will never be lost because it has become a part of our memories. Those memories can never be touched, changed or marred by others. His life can now be com- pared to a favorite book or a corsage pressed between the pages of that book that when seen, causes the memories to come floating back evergreen and ever vivid. Few can forget such a wonderfully special and loving person whose life was so short but yet so meaningful. “Through this toilsome world, alas Once and only once I pass; If a kindness 1 may show. If a good deed I may do To a suffering fellow man. Let me do it while I can. No delay, for it is plain I shall not pass this way again.” This seemed to personify Dick’s life so well, and what a good life it was. I love you, Dick, very much and always will. The memo- ries we have shared are something that I will cherish forever!! In the next three years this occasion will come to pass for everyone in this high school. As years go by, we realize The memories that we share are in the halls of Windsor High With the ones for whom we care. In those months of Homework We found time for friends Made everlasting friendships Which we hope will never end. Weeks of “Mondays trudged on by, But the Fridays always came. Basketball players practice hard for the big Homecoming game. Day by day and class by class. School comes to an end. We look forward to summer fun and flowing with the trend.
