Age: 4 yrs. IN LOVING TRIBUTE By: Amy Cameron To the Mom and I)ad who were always there, to say kind words or stroke my hair. You kissed away my hurts and fears, countless limes over the years. Everything from scratches to badly scraped knees, and now through this uncured disease. You gave me courage, will and hope. You gave me love and helped me cope. Even when I thought 1 was lost, and on your shoulders my cares I tossed. You never buckled under the strain; you rose back up to fight again. You said God would help me and make me strong; I didn't believe it, but I was wrong. He let me live and sent His love the highest blessing from above. Your love for me I’ll always cherish. My love for you will never perish. Age: 18 yrs. Age: 5 yrs. Age: 5 yrs. $ Welcome to our yearbook! The editors got together this year and decided to base our book on the theme of “Now and Then,” because Windsor is now one hundred twenty-five years old. We decided on Now . . . and Then . . . I’m sure you all know about now, but can you remember “then”? Read on and learn more about “then”! The town called Windsor, which was originally Illiopolis but had to In- changed because Illiopolis was already a town, was plotted or mapped on May 16, 1856 by Simeon Ruyder and P. C. Huggins. Thanks to these two gentlemen, we have a town to live in and attend school in. The town became a city in 1865 by a special charter. Windsor has grown through the years and at one time had a harness shop, a hotel, and a store called Tom and Bill's. I wonder if it is anything like Jack and Bill’s. Well, anyway, on with our lit- tle story. The yearbook to our knowledge began in 1922, sixty years ago. The name was selected strangely. “Why, POW’ WOW,” you ask, “when there are no In- dians around?” Well, it seems that the staff members were sitting one night trying to think of a name for the book when someone remarked, “We had better get this pow wow started.” Get it? You know, like a meeting. Oh well, I think you understand. Finally, the old part of the school building (the main part) was built in 1936. The new section was added in 1963. But the newest addition is the gymnasium which was built in 1980. What do you suppose is next? A swim- ming pool!?! HA! HA! Surely you all know Jobey Dunscomb, who just happened to be the first principal and superintendent of the 1936 building. Although we know that there were schools in W indsor and in the country, the 1936 building was the first community school. I hope that in these few short lines I have given you some history of Wind- sor, the yearbook, and our school. Now that you have read this little in- troduction, turn the page and start to learn about NOW . . . AND THEN . . . ) 4 SECRETARY: Jane Bouck ADV ISOR: Sherry Tucker 9 Barry Bell Ed Carter Marty Bly Sheila Childers Fat Goodwin Katie Hartman 11 Larry Hostetler Butch Hendrix Kim Hostetler Abbie Hutchinson Tracey Lee 13 Rick Parrott Don Spencer Pondering thoughts, dreaming dreams. By 7:00 that morning the coaches were busy making their “secret recipe pancakes for the hungry community. All day long the spirit increased. No one could study with all the excitement. Santa even got in on the fun. The Student Council worked hard to turn the gym into a world of “Endless Love” for the dance on Saturday. The excitement reached its peak at the varsity basketball game that night. And even though Stew-Stras kept the hatchet one more year, Windsor's spirit was at its best. P GO-EDITORS JENNY CORDES ANI) JANE BOUCK We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped us with the yearbook. The staff put in many long, hard hour to put out this publication starting with taking the picture to putting the layout on the final draft. Without Mrs. Maryland the yearbook would be a disaster. She ha the job of checking all of the page and «hipping them off to Dallas. So. a «pecial thank to these people. The support and patience given by ail the teachers i« appreciated, especial- ly since student are taken in and out of their classes to have pictures taken, and we thank you for being so cooperative. As we stated before, the yearbook take many long, hard hours before the books arrive at the school to be given to the people who have ordered them. The price had to be raised this year because of the shortage of money brought in by advertising. Sorry about that, but we had to have money to pay for the yearbook publication, which is expensive. Thank you to all students who helped support the yearbook by buying one. We hope you enjoyed the Pow Wow this year.
