Howard’s thirteen years of faithful, courteous service at Windsor High School were ones we couldn’t have done without. After all the high school’s activities, Howard got the never-ending task of cleaning up our clutter. We will miss Howard’s smile and “hello,” which always attended our learning. The Pow Wow staff thanks Howard for his many years of diligent service. 5 EFFINGHAM EQUITY Box 488 Effingham, IL 62401 Effingham: 342-4101 Stewardson: 682-3366 PLANTERS PLANT AT GAYS Managed by the Waggoner Bros., George and Jim (217) 752-6821 plant number Rural Route 1 (217) 752-6558 office number Gays, IL 61928 6 MATTOON PATRONS Biggs Electrical Supply Montgomery Wards Wade International Debuhr’s Seed and Feed Arcade Drug Volkman’s Business Machines, Inc. They expanded their work in many directions. The continuation of the Project 1.1), protection service was a big part of their work program. Farm crimes are an ever-increasing problem. The annual B.O.A.C. (Building Our American Com munity) project was the aluminum can recycling pro- gram. Members got points for collecting these cans and bringing them in. Collecting these cans beautified our local community roadsides and saved one of our valuable resources, thus serving two purposes. Product sales called for harder work because of infla- tion. However, success was still achieved. The highlight of this year was to have .Joe Maher, Il- linois State F.F.A. President, speak at our annual March Banquet. TOP: .John Mowry, reporter. They elected officers and played various games. They also went bowling many times at Etog Bowling Lanes in Mattoon, skating at Sullivan, hiking and practiced basket- ball, volleyball, and tramp. Evening activities included Daddy-Date Night and Camp-In. Money making projects included selling tee- shirts featuring all the teams in the National Trails conference. These were sold at the National Trails Tournament. BACK ROW: Janie Burrell, President; Jane Champion, Vice President; Mrs. Brandenburg. Advisor. SECOND ROW: Cindy Garrett, Sporthead; Lisa Manley. The week started off with Blue and Gold Day and ended with the traditional Pan- cake Breakfast and Dress-up Day. The cooks this year were Coach Lowe and Coach Groothius. The highlight of the morning for the coaches came when the kindergarten came over to the high school for pancakes. The two coaches cooked silver dollar pan- cakes for the little ones. For the District Tour- naments the Pep Club members made cakes for each of the varsity basketball and volleyball players. 66 AT TOP: SENIOR REPRESENTATIVES: Sherry Voegel, Eric Luce. Points Rec.; Steve Bridges. Sec.; Gina Goodwin, St. Coun. Rep.; Mr. Groothius, Advisor. The Industrial Arts Club started their second year associated with the AIASA. They sold candy at the varsity ballgames and used the FFA’s pop- corn machine for Jr. High and Frosh-Soph games. The club decided to make crafts for the Cross County Mall's Spring Craft Show. The proceeds from this year’s activities will be put toward a trip to Chicago or St. Louis. If trip costs rise outstan- dingly, the money will be used for badly needed shop tools. The IA worked together with the Student Coun- cil to design and make the Booster Club signs for the new gym. FRONT ROW: Clayton Hurst. Pat Goodwin, Terry Harris. School had barely started when its first money-making project was held: the car bash at the Harvest Picnic. This year the Student Council began something new, the W.H.S. Booster Club. Local and area businesses could obtain a lifetime membership for a set donation. Membership in- cluded the business’s name on a sign in the gym lobby. The purpose of the Booster Club is to put out money toward school-related activities. Some of the money was used in pur- chasing lights for the Scholastic Team. The Council, with self-earned money, purchased a reflec- tive dance ball to revolve from the ceiling at Homecoming and Prom. This gives the formal dances a classic touch. The problem was solved by repeating last year’s fruit sales. The band sold to the communities of Windsor, Gays, Mattoon, Shel- byville and Stew-Stras, to reach a total of over four hundred boxes of fruit. The band performed a homecoming show in which they covered man’s progress in the field of transportation. The forms of transportation covered were the horse, the bal- loon, the sailboat, and the beloved automobile. 1. Sherry Voegel 2. Cindy Gaston 3. Jeff Cumiskey 4. Chris Bry- son 5. David Phipps 6.
