Welcome in Dedication We, the Pow-Wow Staff of 1972, dedicate this issue to all of the previous editors and their staffs who have produced the Pow-Wow over the past fifty years. Each preceding staff has set the example for the next staff making the next staff's job quite a bit easier. From 1922 on until 1972 the Pow-Wow has grown progressively. With additional students came additional pages, and with those addition- al pages came additional work. As a token of our appreciation to these staffs and editors, we dedicate this issue. We sincerely hope that the next fifty years of this yearbook will be as suc- cessful as the past fifty. 1922 - ORVYLL BUNDY 1923 - GARVIN GRUDER 1924 - CLARENCE ROBB 1925 - RILEY ARMANTROUT 1926 - PAUL BRIDGES 1927 - WILDA GRIDER 1928 - WALTER HUNT 1929 - JANE MOBERLEY 1930 - FLORENCE CURRY 1931 - MARY GARVIN 1932 - EUGENE BAUER, RUSSELL CURRY 1933 - no publication 1934 - no publication 1935 - RUTH ELDER, ROBERTA CONLEY 1936 - RUBY MONER, LYLE MUNSON 1937 - MILDRED THOMPSON. You shouldn't be playing Tic Tac Toe at the Student Coun- cil Meeting. The Student Council is composed of representa- tives from all classes and clubs. This is the way for communicating between students and faculty. The main functions are the homecoming dance, the other activities during that day, ping pong tournaments, sock hops, and intramural basketball games. The council also plans to put in benches in the court. They meet with girls in other schools to compete in games. As a service project this year, they decorated boxes and filled them with cookies and candies. Then they delivered them to the shut-in people in the community. They had two representatives that went to the G.A.A. camp at Bloomington to bring back new ideas for the organiza- tion. Where's my contact lense?? Our faculty ??? Just what I've always wanted. Hitting the books ???! Gee-guys - Oh. my nose !! I Those were the days I’m behind! Under the direction of President Peggy Wallace, the Spanish Club engaged in a number of worthwhile and entertaining activities this year. Freshman members were welcomed into the club at the fall initiation party, where a senes fo relays left the participants hot and breathless. A Sadie Hawkins Dance in November to earn money for the club treasury featured a hillbilly band composed of faculty members dressed in overhalls and potato sacks and playing such instruments as the jug, washboard, and dishpan. A record number of couples chose to be hitched by Marryin' Marsland, and Derek Krile was high bidder for Mr. Gergeni's gut bucket. In December, club members were favored with unusually mild weather the evening of the caroling party. Af- ter the caroling Mrs. Garrett and Mrs. Wallace served refreshments. Another highlight of December wp the creation of the club banner, which took first place in the Homecoming contest. The club year closed in April with the Pan-American program. 53 SEATED; S. Bell, B. Standing: S. Rose, T. Kuhl, K. Curtis, J. Watters, S. Jewell. Oh, Undine! Just outside Salem, Massachusetts is Craft College, a training school for young witches, and into this scene comes unsus- pecting Steve Wharton, a normal English teacher, to finish out the last few weeks before graduation. This is an emergency situation or no normal, much less a MALE, would be allowed inside the unhallowed halls. To make bad matters worse, a jealous and over-ambitious young witch, Lucinda Fry, casts a spell on Steve and Junelle, a student and assistant to the faculty-AND Lucinda's closest compet- itor in witchcraft. Setve falls in love with Junelle and vice-versa. Mother Hecate is called in to perform an exorcism, and all chaos breaks loose. Vases take wings, pictures crash from the wall, chairs hurtle over - Lucinda is at her bewitching best. But love triumphs at the end. It was the real thing. Lucinda’s spell, however, costs Junelle her witch's power - but gains her a husband in the world of normals. But, but, but! I'll scratch your eyes out! Following this the tugof-war teams from each of the classes met in an exciting battle which the seniors won. Next, the sophomores triumphed in our grand-prix of tricycle races. After this we donned our coats to brave the cold, as we listened to encouraging speeches by the players and coaches while gathered around the bonfire. Everyone warmed within a few minutes though, as we returned to the gym to watch the junior and senior girls in a rollicking game of basketball which the juniois won. Then the Student Council treated the students to refreshments. Later that evening a huge crowd returned to see our valiant Blue Devils have a narrow miss with victory. Bright and early the next morning the Student Council was on the scene ready to decorate for the dance that night. Saturday night another huge crowd came for the Homecoming Dance. Traces of Love, for which the band Tenderness Junction played. Sally Bennett was crowned our 1971-72 Homecoming Queen in the coronation ceremony. There was a warm feeling of happiness and satisfaction as Homecoming 1971-72 came to a close. 1 9 7 2 Lk . Traces of Love Zoom. Zoom?? The Party's over. Get ready. Get set, Go?
