Pow-Wow Windsor, Illinois Windsor High School Forms Of Democracy We, the Pow-Wow staff, dedicate this nineteen sixty-eight Pow-Wow to the memory of John Robert Bruce, who served Windsor High School as scorekeeper for twenty-six years. He was a member of the Windsor Christian Church where he was presently serving as superintendent of the Sunday School and a past deacon. He was a Past Master of the Windsor Masonic Lodge. His contributions to the community will be greatly missed. 2 ADVERTISERS FAVORITES FACULTY Table Of Contents Administration - ----------------5 Faculty---------------------------9 ADMINISTRATION ATHLETICS CLASSES Seniors-------------------------- 13 Classes------------------------ 19 Organizations----------------------31 Activities----------------------- 55 Favorites--------------------------61 Athletics------------------------ 69 Advertisers------------------------81 SENIORS ACTIVITIES ORGANIZATIONS 3 It is the belief of the staff that high school accomplishments will be a lifetime reward. The board members are animated by a genuine interest in building future citizens for America and a true sense of patriotism inspired by faith in their country. Bill Ashmore Jack Jones 7 Administrators Mr. Curry, our school superintendent, graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree and received his Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. He has been superintendent of the Windsor School Unit for fifteen years. Mr. Curry is now serving on the Advisory Board of Lake Land Junior College in Mat-toon. Though a very busy man, Mr. Curry finds time to be friendly and helpful to all. As unit superintendent he is responsible for coordinating the functions of the school system and the activities of the community. Mr. Curry is also very active in civic affairs and serves faithfully in the Windsor Christian Church. Although hard at work he still finds time to lend a smile and a willing hand to all students on their way to success. Our principal, Mr. Seng, graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later obtained his Master's degree there. Mr. Seng is working on his six year certificate, a step higher than the Master’s degree. He has been principal for nine years and a teacher at Windsor High School for eighteen years. Mr. Seng is a member of the Legislative Commission of Illinois High School Association. He shows great success in combining the positions of advisor, teacher, and principal. In the capacity of advisor, he capably sponsors the activities of the Student Council. He is always willing to counsel any student who seeks our principal's assistance and wisdom. 8 JOHN GALUGAN, B.S. Murray State College Mathematics BILL DeWERFF, B.S. Southern Illinois Univ. He won't let his daughter Mary become engaged to Joe Lanconi because his papa is poor. So Joe's papa comes to plead his son's case. The two fathers start a feud, and Luigi, who has a bad heart, just can't take it—he konks out. Luigi comes back to haunt Mr. Morlock until the latter gives permission for the wedding. All the family think he’s lost his marbles when they see him talking to himself. In his despair, he takes too many sleeping pills. Then, he, too, kicks the bucket. But Mr. Morlock won't leave until things are settled, and Luigi can't rest in peace until they are married. So round they go again. Now, Lucifer, drops in. Poor Mr. Morlock--if he only had another chance. If only--then Mildred awakens him. It's all been a bad dream. 59 Librarians FRONT ROW; Elva Jean Gaston, Steve Roy; Advisor, Mrs. Brandenburg; Steve Carpenter, Ruby Martin, Chris Storm; SECOND ROW: Esther Arganbright, Jean Wittenberg, John Moore, Mary Hooten, Jean Szachnitowski, Colleen Baker; THIRD ROW: Linda Doehring, Dennis Quigley, Don Matthews, Arlan Mitchell, Dan Miller, Mary McAllister Kent Howard, Terry Gaston, Mr. Seng Newspaper Editors The newspaper editors have really been working hard this year to keep the students and public up to date on the activities of the high school. Throughout the season, the team capitalized on fine pitching by Rod Maxwell and timely hitting by Rich Waggoner and Dennis Quigley, to overcome their foes. Although they lost their first three games, the Devils finished with a 6-3 season mark and a 5-3 National Trail Conference record, good enough for a tie for second place with Altamont and T-Town. Next year's outlook is bright, despite the loss of the varsity infield of Dennis Quigley, Terry Gaston, Mike Seng, and John Moore and outfielder Leonard Storm. Junior lettermen Rod Maxwell, Mike Havens, Rich Waggoner, Bill Bryson, Rick Ratliff, and sophomore Wes Hilligoss should help the diamond squad attain success again next year. JF’s Gain Experience This year’s junior varsity season was one in which the players gained experience Their 8 wins and 10 losses did not reflect their desire to win or their ability However, some costly mistakes hurt them in key games. New junior varsity coach Nohern gave all his players the needed instruction and playing experience which will help them become successful varsity players. A fine and able sophomore squad should assure future junior varsity success and provide the Devils with more fine basketball records. 73 Devils’ Balance FLOYD HILLIGOSS NTC Trophy SIT Trophy MIKE SENG (Left) T. The Blue Devils again continued to play some of the area's finest basketball. With a strong group of returning lettermen, they were contenders for the National Trail title. Only costly losses to Beecher City and Teutopolis removed them from contention. Ironically a final conference game loss to St. Anthony also kept them from second place. They finished third in the National Trail Conference with a 8-3 record. The Devils were again a team to be reckoned with in tournament play. They finished second in the National Trail tourney and third in the Shelby Invitational. Both times they lost to the eventual champion. In the third place game at Shelby-ville, Rod Maxwell, the team's leading scorer, with a 24 point average, turned in the season's finest individual performance, netting 43 points. The Devils concluded the regular season with a 16-8 record. Next year should be a fine one with three of this year's starters returning. The boys, defeating the Comets twice, kept up the W.H.S. tradition by winning both hatchets again this year. 76 The Basket that decided the game. As we say good-by to our high school years, we are confronted by the problems of our democratic society. We are faced with such problems as what to do after graduation, where to live, and how to pay taxes and other bills. Then there are national problems. Should we be Democrats or Republicans? Whom should we vote for? Who is the best qualified? We, the Pow-Wow staff, thank the faculty and non-teaching personnel for their help in preparing us for the various problems of today’s world. The clubs and organizations, especially the Student Council and the Pow-Wow, have greatly helped us. Again we thank you. 105 Compliments of THE WEISS CLINIC 212 South 16th Mattoon, Illinois 61938 DR.
