We would like to dedicate this nineteen sixty-seven edition of the Pow-Wow to the many fine people of our communities who are doing all they can to make our education possible. We would like to express our extreme gratitude, and our hope that their continuing efforts will always be advancing the quality of a Windsor High School education, in this world where education is the single most valuable asset a man can have. A profitable project was the sale of ink pens. The juniors also made money from the bake sales they sponsored. A very successful play was presented by the Junior Class of W.H.S. this year. It was a three act comedy, titled, Father's Been to Mars. The junior party, The Mod, was held on November 4th. A skit, Swans on the Lake, was presented at this time. The juniors sponsored an activity night on October 5th. Quite a few people turned out for this evening of fun and games. The juniors sold pop at some of the ball games when it was their turn; they also ran the coat check. From the many ideas suggested, the juniors chose Chew Em Up as their theme for their Homecoming Float. This year the juniors spent many long, hard hours in preparation of the Junior-Senior Prom. Class-work (teamwork) proved successful again. The juniors enjoyed an entertaining year as upperclassmen and will return in the fall as seniors, the upper, upperclassmen. 25 BY SHOWING CLEVERNESS, Don Matthews Danny McQueen Arlan Mitchell David Mitchell Marilyn Mulvaney Brenda Paulson Dorvin Polk Denny Quigley CLASS OFFICERS: BOTTOM ROW: Esther Arganbright, secretary Steve Cooper, president Mark Kasey, vice president TOP ROW; Mr. Galligan, assistant adv. On November 12th the council attended the Shelbyville District Student Council Convention to obtain ideas to use in our council. Much preparation and planning was put into the Homecoming activities. The theme for Homecoming Dance was Moonlight and Mistletoe. Improvements are being made on the student lounge, which this year was named Devils Den. Several different money-making projects were planned under the supervision of our advisor, Mr. Seng. 37 TOP ROW: Leonard Storm, Fred Doehring, Mel Austin, Jim Schrock, Ricky Ratliff; THIRD ROW: Jane Haney, Gary Wallace, Larry Syfert, John Lenz, Mary Ann McCallister; SECOND ROW: Karen Jones, Randy Mulvaney, Darrell Kearney, Rita Boyd, Patty Garrett; BOTTOM ROW: Anne Baugher, Janie Davis, Jim Baugher, Peggy Garrett, Judy Kearney. PROMOTES ENTHUSIASM In its third year at Windsor High School the Pep Club has promoted great enthusiasm among the spectators at the basketball games. They have done this by purchasing two megaphones for the members to use. These megaphones produce great spirit from the fans, and the basketball boys seem to really appreciate it. The Pep Club has no regular outfits this year, but each member purchased a Pep Club button, which they are to wear to each game. School Spirit reigns high at WHS, and all agree that the Pep Club has truly promoted enthusiasm. 45 NEW MEMBERS: SEATED: B. Storm, S. Slater, E. Arganbright; STANDING: J. Baugher, M. Austin, R. FHA BECOMES FHA COMES OF AGE was the theme for the Windsor chapter this year. In carrying out this theme and celebrating their twenty-first birthday, a birthday party was one of the many activities in which the girls participated. Every November, the FHA sponsors a service project in which they do something helpful for the needy people, the school, or the community. This year they promoted, OPERATION WE CARE , an all school project where a collection of goods was made to send to the area servicemen in Viet Nam. The school is very proud of our local chapter for the fine job they have done this year. AS OF AGE OFFICERS: STANDING: Lucy Baker. Before we actually begin to study (1.), we have a little fun with our friends to relax and prepare us for the day ahead. In class we listen attentively (2.) to hear every important word our teachers have to say. Their leadership affords us a good basic understanding of our lessons, and their example teach (3.) us patterns of daily behavior. We study (4.) diligently to master the lessons they teach us. At the end of the day, we return to a happy home, where the pleasant atmosphere prepares us for another day in the process of learning. 60 ACTIVITIES SENIOR EDITORS AND ADVISOR: Mike Szachnitowski, Mrs. Marsland, Sudy Sexson. It has indeed been a busy year for the members of the Pow-Wow staff. There were meetings to attend in spite of looming tests or events that might have been more fun. We weren't always on time with our assignments, but we are pleased with the way we did finish them. Although we had our doubtful moments, it has been our pleasure to make this book available to you. HAS BUSY YEAR SNAPSHOT EDITORS: Doehring Charles Bailey, Linda JUNIOR EDITORS: Arganbright Jean Szacnitowski Esther 63 JUNIOR CLASS PRESENTS The juniors worked hard to produce their class play, Father's Been to Mars. The play was based on a T. V. actor who portrayed an explorer in space. Although his family loved his acting, they want him to leave his role at the theater. The family decides when Father brings his leading lady home and frightens Mother’s tea ladies, to teach him a lesson. Little did they know that Father was bringing the president of his network home to meet his family. When Mother plans her scheme for the same night, the whole house goes in circles. The production was fun for the actors, actresses, backstage help, and the director, all of whom helped and worked hard to make the play successful. 64 “FATHER’S BEEN TO MARS” 65 NEWSPAPER EDITORS The newspaper editors have really been working hard this year to include all the news of the high school in our town paper. They have done a fine job keeping our community well informed of our activities. Nancy Taylor, Fred Doehring, Advisor, Mr. Seng LIBRARIANS This year, under the supervision of Mrs. Brandenburg, the library was expanded_books. Also, all old books are being recovered. HOMECOMING Homecoming activities were many and varied at W. H.S. this year. The Student Council had a frantic time preparing the activities but their work was appreciated. As is now a tradition, the day’s activities inspired another successful basketball game as the Devils retained their hatchet for the sixth consecutive year. The victory was celebrated by the homecoming dance, Moonlight and Mistletoe, which brought the homecoming festivities to an end. 70 Pictures of the couples were taken behind a large red sleigh. This year the Devils won both games over Stewardson-Strasburg, thus making it possible for Windsor to take possession of both hatchets. This makes the fifth consecutive year. Also the Blue Devils stormed through the National Trail Conference by defeating Stew-ardson-Strasburg, Altamont, and St. Anthony, thus taking the second place trophy. It was a repeat performance at the Shelby-ville Invitational when Windsor beat Morrisonville and Shelbyville to take that second place trophy also. Add these to the other victories of the Blue Devils and one can see just how victorious we were. 76 COACHES: Richard Gibson Dave Fulkerson JUNIOR VARSITY: BACK; W. Hilligoss, L. Paxton, D. Syfert, M. Among them were Terry Shafer, Gary Ashmore, Jim Schrock, Larry Shafer, Rod Maxwell, Leonard Storm, and Mel Austin. We also had an excellent supply of reserves. Windsor's Rod Maxwell was high point man in the National Trail Conference for WHS. Misfortune struck the Blue Devils when Jim Schrock broke his leg during the game with Areola. The Devils missed Jim’s playing ability, but finished the season with several more victories. Prospects are bright for the Devils next year. They will have eight players returning to head the varsity team. Because of the J. V. ’s 15 wins and 3 losses this year, one can see the excitement in store for next year. MANAGERS: B. The season was filled with exciting games. Such an incident occurred in the Neoga game. With the score 9-8 Neoga's favor in the bottom of the seventh, Gary Ashmore came to bat. The bases were loaded, and we had two outs. Ashmore hit a low line drive to right field which the fielder could not get. The hit scored two runs to win the game. Next year’s squad will miss the services of this year's seven graduating seniors: catcher, Larry Shafer; first base, Dennis Hickman; pitcher, Jim Schrock; second base, Darrell Kearney; and outfielders, Gary Ashmore and Jim Baugher. But the returning iettermen, Richard Waggoner, Dennis Quigley, Terry Gaston, Mike Seng, Leonard Storm, Mike Havens, and Rodney Maxwell, should lead the Devils through a victorious season. I 16 FAREWELL TO W.H.S In our high school career, we have come to many crossroads. In the past we have always had signs and guideposts to aid us in choosing the path which leads to our own goal. These signs have been our teachers and counselors, who have put us on the correct path by helping us make the correct decisions necessary to a happy future. We are very thankful to these people for this help. Again we are at a great crossroad. What we are going to do after high school is going to be one of the most important decisions in our lives. We have to make it by ourselves. We can have no signs to help us. We are happy to say that we can rely on the knowledge we have gained at Windsor High School. 117 AUTOGRAPHS 118 TRACKSTERS OF “67” SHOT PUT Warren Thompson Gary Ashmore STANDING: D. Paulson, J. Mike Seng The tracksters of the 1967 season competed in a great number of track meets. They brought home from these track meets many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. Although they did not win a meet this year, the tracksters achieved success in other ways, and the fans were truly proud of the boys. “HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL” The 1967 senior class presented a comedy for their annual class play. The setting of the play was at an old folks home which was run by Dr. Grimm. She was a crooked old lady because she took the old folks' money. To keep the old ones alive, she started the kingdom. The old people thought of themselves as royalty, and the oldest person was king or queen. The Social Security Administration was very upset because these people were living far too long. Therefore, they sent a representative to investigate the matter. Mr. Elliott, the representative, fell in love with the nurse, who took care of the old folks. It was a warm and amusing story, and the audience, which was one of the largest that has ever attended a play at WHS, was very pleased with the performance. Many people were responsible for the success of the play. There was the backstage crew, G. Ashmore, L. Shafer, D. Hickman, E. Austin, S. Cole, M. L. Rincker, T. Shafer, C. Rankin, J. Turner, C. Williamson, and R. Allen, all of whom contributed a great deal. Mrs. Keller, the advisor, was wonderful as usual. The cast included M. Szachnitowski, A. Storm, K. Jones, J.Baugher, T. Latch, S. Sexson, L. Kasey, Mr. Fulkerson, N. Taylor, T. Thompson, G. Wallace, M. Ohm, R. Miller, P. Slater, B. Harpster, and N. Nolen. The Backstage Crew and Advisor How about a twirl, Maude? This year the seniors of WHS won the right to play the faculty. Tensions became high as the game began, and in the end the spectators saw the seniors whip the faculty after a hard game. The faculty now has to wait until next year to try to regain its title as volleyball champions. Wreaths of roses, gazeboes, and soft lights enhanced the evening even though rain dampened it. The banquet was fully enjoyed by all, and equally so the senior prophecy. The prom itself was also fully enjoyed because of the atmosphere and music. Refreshments were served, and each one participated in this activity. At the close of the evening, most people went to post-prom parties to extend their evenings of enjoyment.
