Cole, Coach Buchanan. A second-place finish in the National Trail Conference was the highlight of a successful season for the Windsor Blue Devils. With an overall mark of 18 victories and eight defeats, the Blue Devils finished conference play with a nine and three record. After defeating Teutopolis in the opening round ofthe conference tournament, the Blue Devils were eliminated from Champion play by the Comets of Stewardson-Strasburg. Powerful Brownstown was no match for Windsor in the battle for third place, and the Blue Devils, leading all the way, came home with the consolation prize. Duplicating their efforts in the conference tourney, the Blue Devils defeated Findlay for third place honors in the Shelby County Tournament. Windsor defeated Cowden to start the tourney but again ran into Stew-Stras in the semi-finals. The Comets edged out a three-point decision, and the Blue Devils were again forced to settle for the consolation prize. With an eye on the District crown, Windsor ran into a hot-shooting Arthur five and, in a major upset, were defeated in the first round. The Blue Devils were captained this year by the two returning lettermen, seniors Monty Nohren and Roger Bottrell. Monty, who led the team in scoring, was considered one of the top players in the conference and in this section of the state. Dick Baugher, up from last year’s reserves, and the above two are the only graduating members of this year's squad. Other lettermen were Ricky George, Earl Walker, Jim Edwards, Bill Cole, Larry Bouck, Lionel Stirrett, and Larry Grabb. Individual scoring for the first five was as follows: Nohren,497 points; George,371; Bottrell, 276; Baugher; 256; and Walker, 195. The reserves tasted defeat on only two occasions this year as they roared to a 17 and 2 record. With this material moving up, the Blue Devils will be hard to beat in years to come.
