Bjurstrom led the team with two hits while holding Beecher City to six scattered hits while going the route. Monty Nohren also collected two hits and scored a couple of runs. XVIN DSOR -l-ALTA MONT 3 IVindsor inet the Altamont nine on the local diamond and won out in a tight pitchers' duel, 4 to 3. Larry Hennigh, starting one of his few games as a pitcher, pitched superbly as he held the Indians to two hits. He showed great strength in the clutch as he was in constant trouble because of lack of control and lack of team support. His great speed and ability to baffle the Altamont hitters paved the way, however, because the Blue Devils only managed to get five hits. Rog Bridges, john Goddard, Bruce Nolen, Larry Hennigh, Monty Nohren each got one hit apiece. T-TOIVN 4-VVINDSOR 3 The tables were turned once again as the Blue Devils met defeat at the hands of the T-Town Wooden Shoes. The game was another pitchers' battle with Bjurstrom on the mound for Windsor. He held the Shoes to ten hits while the Blue Devils could only scrap the opposition for six. Maxedon led the hitting with two hits while Bjur- strom got one hit and scored two runs. IVINDSOR 3-COMETS 0 One of the highlights of the season was the 3 to 0 victory over our arch rival, Stewardson-Strasburg. Bjurstrorn was i11 top form as he dealt out only one hit, a solid blow, after holding the Comets' hitters for five and two- thirds innings. He was in constant control of the game as he struck out fourteen batters while walking no one. The opposing pitcher, however, was equally effective as he held Windsor to two hits, both collected by Rog Bridges. XVINDSOR 4-NEOGA 3 It seemed the favorite score this year was 4 to 3 as the Blue Devils defeated Neoga by one run. Bjurstrom once again went tl1e distance as he held the Indians to four hits. Windsor hammered out six against the opposition with getting two of them. WVINDSOR l7-COYVDEN l In the last game of the season, Windsor had practically no troube at all in defeating Cowden by a score of 17 to l. Windsor hammered Olll a total of fourteen hits with John Goddard, Jim Maxedon, jim Bottrell, and Stan Bjurstrom each getting two apiece. Bjttrstrom held Cowden to one hit, with Rog Bottrell catching his first game. A , LUIHUBUH Hill lllVIlE BASEBALL 11.111 ROGER BRIDGES, FIRST BASE, B.A. 250.-Rog, a Senior, played three years as a regular and was Windsor's main long-ball hitter. In the S.S Comets game he had a home run and a double, driving in the three runs for a three to nothing win. In the second game of the season against Brownstown, Bridges clouted a double with the bases loaded driving in the tying and winning runs in a five to four Windsor victory. fContinued on page 571 Troutman's Service . Roger, a Sophomore, showed fine promise as a hitter and will be counted on heavily the next two years. JIM BOTTRELL, CATCHER, B.A. 240.- Pinky, a Senior, carried the brunt of the team catching. jim was not only a fine catcher but also a good handler of pitchers. He was one of the top hitters with a .240 average for nine games. jim played regular for three years in the outfield and then as a catcher, who will be sorely missed come next season. MONTY NOHREN, LEFT FIELD, B.A. .200.-Monty, also a Sophomore, was one of our better defensive out- fielders. Monty gave promise of developing into a fine hitter and played good ball especially during the latter part of the season. LARRY HENNIGH, CENTER FIELD, PITCHER, B.A. .200.-Larry, a Senior, played three years and was our best defensive outfielder. His specialty was making miraculous catches. He was well adapted to going backwards to snag fly balls, and because of that was able to play a shallow center field, taking away hits on short line drives. Larry was also our top base runner and led the team with 14 pilfered bases. Larry was at times a good hitter and ended the season with a .200 batting average. jIM MAXEDON, RIGHT FIELDER, B.A. .200-Jim who was also a Senior, played his first full season with the Blue Devil baseball team. He was a good defensive man and at times displayed power at bat. jim will graduate this spring, and his position will be a hard one to fill come fall. STAN BjURSTROM, PITCHER, OUTFIELDER, B.A. .250-Stan, a Senior, was the team's starting pitcher for three years. As a Sophomore he alternated with Butch Krietemeier, but during the last two years he was the number-one pitcher. He pitched a couple of one.hit games while in high school and has struck out as high as fifteen men in one game. Stan was also a good hitter, hitting .250 as a lead-off man. Stan's position will undoubt- edly be the hardest to fill of all those left by graduating Seniors. j0HN GODDARD, SHORTSTOP, B.A. .200.-john, a junior, played his first full season of baseball and filled the shortstop position very ably. He played well on defense and got a good many hits. BRUCE NOLEN, THIRD BASE, B.A. .200-Bruce, a Senior who has played three years as a regular, held down the hot corner in fine style. A fine glove man, Bruce was also a dependable hitter and at times showed power. Bruce is another Senior who will be greatly missed next year. 'A jej DOEHRING A gk Auto 6. Imp. Sales l I. I. This was really a fine year hut was dimmed somewhat hy the winning of the National Trail title last year. The Blue Devils played good base. hall most of the time but were hampered at times by poor hitting. The team was engaged in five one-run decisions, winning four and losing one. By defeating Teutopolis the Blue Devils could have tied for the championship of the N.T.C.g however, we were defeated four to three on a run in the top of the seventh, finishing in third place in the conference. A run-down of games follows: XVIN DSOR -I-FIN DLAY 3 On the first day of school the hasehall team opened its fall season with a 4 to 3 victory over Findlay. Although both teams had ll0t had any practice, the game was still as good as a lot of the mid-season games. Hennigh was the starting pitcher httt was relieved hy Stan Bjurstrom in the last inning. Together they limited Findlay to one hit. Hennigh, Nolen, and jim Bottrell each got one hit, and Stan Bjurstrom scored three runs for Windsor. WVINDSOR 5-BROVVNSTOVVN 4 Windsor started off in fine fashion with a victory in our first conference game. The team played great ball and edged out Brownstown in the last inning. The hitting was scattered out with six men all getting one hit. Rocky Bridges, the big first.sacker, played hero, however, and drove home the game-tying and -winning runs with a big double. Bjurstrom pitched all the way and allowed seven hits. ST. ANTHONY 4-YVINDSOR 0 The Blue Devils traveled to Effingham and met defeat at the hands of the conference champs by a score of 4 to 0. lt seemed the team had left their hitting clothes at home, because they managed to get only two hits off Tony Toegencamp. The Blue Devils started slowly, dropping three of their first five games but went on from there to finish with a 24 and 6 record. Included in the season's conquests were three tournament victories: the N.T.C. Tournament, the Shelby County Tournament, and the Atwood District. The team played a fast-breaking style of ball this year and were able to wear down many opponents by fastlmreaking constantly. One of the strong points of this year's team was balanced scoring with all team members scoring well. The Blue Devils won many cherished victories this season including the championship victory over previously undefeated Stewardson-Strasburg in the N.T.C. Tourney. Another cherished victory was the thriller over Steward- son-Strasburg in the County Tournament and also the 43 to 41 victory over Sullivan. The team scored a total of 1978 points for the season to compile a 66.point game average while holding opponents to a 52-point game average. During the season the Blue Devils compiled two ten-game winning streaks, losing only to Stewardson-Strasburg in the middle of the season to make it a record of twenty games won out of the last twenty-one games played before we lost to Lakeview.
