5omotrow Anti Us Would you like to know what the future will bring, or would you rather let the events of each day be a surprise to you? To very few people is given the power to look into the crystal ball of tomorrow and predict the destination of a friend. On the other hand, I do not always claim to be right in my predictions but in the course of the past many have come true. Let me take you now from the world of today and out into the darkness of that world which is beyond--the world of tomorrow and years to come. The Senior Class of 1960, of Windsor High Schoolhas always been known for Wanting to do something new and different. Their QI should say our, becauselam one of themj futurefwill 'prove to be just that, something new and different. Yes, come with me nowfanid look into the crystal ball. I ca'nss,ee something in quite a new form. It looks something? like an airplane getting ready for take-off. It's not a plane. Could it be, yes it is, a rocket ship? There are all of my old class mates getting on and waiting for the take-off. Let's move a little closer and have a look inside. Why, I do know these people, but they have aged so much. But let's remember this is the future. There's William Earl Wilkins, our senior class president, and Janie Holland, Joe Blythe, Carolyn Rawls, Nancy Hall, and good- ness gracious there I am sitting there ready for this thing to take-off. Ithinkwe. shall just be quiet for a minute and listen. Maybe we will get some' clue as to the nature of this. affair. Oh! we're taking off. Hold Cl?1,PlQ3.SC taking off for Mars, called James Robert Cobb, who because of his ability to drive fastiwasgiven the job of piloting this monsterous thing. It took off with such a tremend- ous force Vfnglldt-K3 loud exclamation of surprise came from the back of the ship. Could it be, yes of course, itfsithat little Kay Johnson. But she was always so quiet in school. In fact she was voted the Quietest in the room. Well, people certainly change. . .Doesn't that beautiful coat of red and-ipurple plaid catch your eye? You know, I do believe that's Charles Phillips. He al- ways did dress nicely, and I had heard that he would probably go in the clothing business. Let's ask him andpsee. Oh Charle s, I beg your pardon, but that is quite an exclusive coat you're wearing. Do you mind tellingfius about your clothing business? What, ohdid ihear a voice? H if Isn't that terrible? I forgot he can't see me. He can only hear my voice. ' I really don't want him to think .hei's going crazy so I'll just talk to you very softly. - f Let's moveiwbahkijdst a little. Well, Mable Umphlette, she's sitting therein the very same desk she had in the senior room. I'll say one thing for Mable, she certainly was faithful to that old desk. You hardlyiever .saw her out of it. . .Listen to Pete Beale giving advice. I always knew he would turn out to befa lawyer. He could always think of somethingto say and try to win an argument. But whoilsj hegitalkingi to? .You guessed it, Igennethylyiarshall. From what I can gather from the conversation, I,-Qthink Kenneth has been in sornekind of trouble while playing chess. Yes, he accidently turnedgover' the, chess board, andbroke' Roger White's guitar. Roger is suing Kenneth and Pete fi's'KeDi7inetlii'S lawyer, .F '.'Sec-rfthatgghoy with his head stuck behind that book. That's Joe Blythe. I believe he's recently become, physics professor at the University of Virginia. He must be reading on the f1atte1st'th'ings4 ' . .Those girls dressed in white are all nurses. I might add that they areffinelooking ones too. There are Judy White, Kathleen Umph- lette, Becky Gray, and thegonef,lyinggi'do5gQggii,,is.5KaM,gg,Qhnson?,liLwho'faintedg the beginning of the trip. There 's a doctor standingover her. Just afrhiniitefand when he raises his head I'll tell you who it is. Yes, it's Kerry Butler. It seeprns that Kerry has discogge-iiedfsome new drug to gain weight fast. Johnny Bradshaw read the directions wrong and rtoiokitoo much. Now Johnny weighs 300 pounds! There is a group of boys discussing the latest developments in farm machinery and crops to be used on Mars. There are William Duck, Al Johnson, and Carlton Outland. David Bowden is telling of a new seed he has developed for Hybrid corn. . .My, did you notice Tena Arrington's hair? She's a beautician now. She really does a nice job. . .Frances Carr is read- ing something. Let's move up a little closer and see what it is. It's a play by Nancy Hall. Nan- cy's talent for writing has made her famous in the literary world. Frances has become quite an actress, I hear. It seems that her roles in the Junior and Senior plays were the stepping stones to a successful career. . .There is Bert Nurney with a pile of books. I just heard him tell Jo Anne Pierce that he was still trying to study to make up the work he missed during the Senior year. Jo Anne was so busy reading her history book, I really don't think she heard him. She'S 22

teaching history now in a city school along with Martha Lee Godwin. .Let me sit down here by Carolyn Rawls. She's so busy with those test tubes from her lab, that I don't think she'll know I'm even here. I want to look over William Earl Wilkins' shoulder and read that newspaper. I see that Tommy Buxton performed quite a few wedding ceremonies this week. Judy Babb, Janie Holland, Jane Parker, and Kathryn Rhodes made beautiful brides I'm sure. I gather that they're going to Mars on their honeymoon. . .Come on William Earl, turn the page. Well, I see that Billy Duck was the dancing sensation at the LatingQuarter last week-end. And William Earl has a sports column. I'rn really glad. That's'just what 'he' always ,wanted to do and he's so interested in sports. . .Whatl there's my name. Mary Lou Turner andi'MaVry Gene Atkins were featured at Radio City Music Hall durgingdthe concert week. They played angorgan and piano duet. . .Rita Daughtrey has recently coijniefiinto quite a large sum of money and1gMissfL52arolyn Griffin, the ex- clusive interior decoratorlis redoing Rita's home. . .Joanne Rose, thefamous psychiatrist is carrying a portable couch around with her everywhere she goes. She always thinks someone might need psychiatric aid. . .And Linda Daughtrey has made fabulous amounts of money as a court stenographer. Business was always her line. Friends, are you still with me? Now that we're in this crystal ball of the future, we might as well continue. What will be waiting for us on Mars, will we meet our fate hereffr Yes, let us gaze once morle into the future--come with me. ' 1 Do you ,see what I see? The time must be months later. There is a smallvilfrage. Why, these people have started a new life on Mars. They have built a whole city witlrtheir talents. Each one of. them was so different that there was so much to contribute to a new civilization. Let's walk ,down the street and View this new metropolis. , I see axlibeautiful white building. I do believe it's a hospital. Be very quiet whileentering. They can'tQQ'iee us, but we don't want to disturb them by our footsteps. There are Judy White, Kathleen llrnphlette, Becky Gray, and Kay Johnson preparing for surgery. There is Ilr. Kerry Butler stantfingnext to the operating table. It is wonderful that they have this great talent to help people. As w53pas.Sed by the lab. on our- way out, I saw Carolyn Rawls hard at work. Did you see her? - .Mr I think I'Il jiustipicktup one of those newspapers at the foot of the steps and readof the cur- rent events. From these headlines I see that there is to be a talent show at the sclffool tonight. It is being put on by the facultyg Joe Blythe, Martha Lee Godwin, and Jo Anne Pierce. ,Roger White will play and Marylsou Turner and Mary Gene Atkins will play their farnousfduet. Joanne Rose will read her popular monologue of The Waltz. The program willlconclude with a short play by Nancy Hall.l'ElFranceis.gC.arr will be the star. Costumes are by'Kathryn'1Rhodes and Charles Phillips. Choreography .bye A' Billy Duck. Scenery by Carolyn Griffinf Another news item is that Beale wonhis case con'ceri1ing'Kenneth Marshall. I imagine that Linda Dalightrey, as court steno- grapher, had a big job. ,yVilliarn Earl's sports column looks interestin-gf He says that Al John- son is trying to start a newgfpotball team here on Mars. In their spare time some of the boys have a good time playing. H?ere?is fapad-fromQJohnny Bradshavu'!fsg,.Garage. I-Ie says that he can overhaul anything including Outland's. custom built,rIacer,1.which Carlton built especially for travel on Mars. Gracious tgatgzgrqiset. ju'st,SQeQQs,QjfQ53thing fly past us very fast? I guess it was just Bert and JamgegS hwgiiad better step off this street. I really don't think it's SBgfiiifkgfif-QSa?l'l'lfQEg1jW1jlSt'E'Qfi'I1'Zll1llJ?gf?fi.5gt55lAB 'i'l1lfIit sign, Beauty Salon ? It looks as though she has ,There is JudyYBabli5fR?if-'ggi aughtrey, Janie Holland, Jane Parker, and Mable U'ifnphie'ttQei: lfflrdreis..,j1,1s,tg,Q3nes,rnore'inerson Ihagggito see before we leave. I know you must be tired But pleasewfovlfdwrne a while longei:i.QILwant to go to the church and see Tommy Buxton. He should be preparing his sermoyn jQ2iQSSunday. Here we are and the door has been left open. We'll just take at lookinside. Yes, there he is hard at work. I know he will do much good for these people here. Thank you so much for bearing with me for so lo 'g. I think this is enough for one day. Come, let's go back, back into our world of today, back to the present. What you have seen and heard this day you must keep a secret. For the future is not to be found out yet. You must keep very quiet and not utter a word of the world beyond and tomorrow ..........
